My vote goes to Home Star Runner, but jib-jab takes a close second.

That's such a subjective thing. I like Penny Arcade.

JOY NO WRY

angryflower.com, because Bob The Angry Flower is a nihilist, a scientist,a millionaire, and a vicious killer. Kinda like Jerry Cornelius, except in this case a flower.

That was supposed to be quite a long post about how Bob The Angry Flower rocked because of how he's a nihilistic scientist millionaire angry flower and everything, but somehow I just posted a dash. I'm not really sure what happened.

Ninjas make great pets

'Bear' - its not strickly speaking an online comic but just so sweet I thought it worth a mention

a little bear I love and a cat I identify with a little too well

Strindberg and Helium is the coolest thing online EVER.

A fall of geckos

Not a cartoon, but a webcomic - A Softer World leaves me either laughing or feeling vaguely disturbed on a weekly basis.
It ranges from straight forward funny strips like this one, to what seem like twisted visual haikus like this, this and this.

And for me, this strip sums up cats perfectly.

Speaking strictly of cartoons, newgrounds.com ranges between the completely awesome and the completely awful with some of their original animated shorts.

As for webcomics, Something Positive (www.somethingpositive.net) is one of my favorites, as is Venus Envy (http://venusenvy.keenspace.com) and Scary Go Round (www.scarygoround.com).

So do we mean animation or comic strips? Strangely enough, they're not entirely interchangable...
In toons I have to say Weebl and Bob out of loyalty but I also dig on Homestar Runner.
As regards comic strips I enjoy Maakies, Kaz's Underworld and Red Meat, but all of these occasionally surface in print form, so I'm not sure if they count. There's a big place in my heart for Penny Arcade, but it's lit only by a tv screen, and smells slightly of wet carpets and Lynx Africa.

lonely as a cloud...

I read a couple...Goats, Superosity, and PVP are probably my favourites. All three have been running quite a while, and have complete archives, so you've ample material to waste about a week of your life reading.

Thank you for telling us about this. Weird and oddly touching at the same time. This one just makes me feel... uncomfortable.

(And you are so right about the cat one!)

Basic HTML coding. Check out this page and scroll down to "LINKS."

Phex: Dorset Doom

DieselSweeties is good, though you'll have to read from the first issue to get most of it. In terms of cartoons, there can only be Retarded Animal Babies.

I can't believe nobody's mentioned Sinfest yet. Wapsi Square is also good, as is VG Cats. Cigarro & Cerveja is a well drawn comic of canadian origin, as is Filibuster, which is a good modern take on the classic one-panel political cartoon. Case Yorke's Gluemeat amuses some, annoys others. Home-grown UK talent can be found at Housd (which you'd probably need to read the archives of to really enjoy and understand) and at Able & Baker. Achewood isn't the best drawn comic out there, but it makes me smile. As do Applegeeks and Mac Hall. Bunny is just plain cute, as is Count Your Sheep. Sam & Fuzzy has a pretty unique style and brand of humour, and Her! Girl vs. Pig is homicidal to the max. Jason Pultz's Comic Strip features a scary bear. Keith Knight's K-Chronicles has a good mixture of political satire and good storytelling. Last but not least, Real Life and Commissioned are worthwhile reads as well (Commissioned has only just started, but looks promising).

Whoops, forgot to mention Acid Keg, Men in Hats, Butternutsquash, Bottomless Pop, Ctrl Alt Del, M@B, Orneryboy, Penny Dreadful and Suburban Tribe. And if you're interested in Northern Irish political humour, you could always take a look at the Portadown News.

I was just made aware of this one about two weeks ago. I'm already hooked.

Sean the frumious Bandersnatch

Cartoons, in decending order of sanity.

Burnt Face Man, a true British superhero.

Some of you might get a kick out of this cartoon about Gary Busey and George Bush.

I found this on Barbelith a while ago. Very strange, but in a good way.

This is one of the two most eye-melting things I've seen on the internet, and is not to be viewed by mere mortals. Not safe for work.

On a side note, I am greatful for the -not safe for work- warnings, thanks, I have been victom of looking at a bad link with my boss right around the corner, never a good thing.

Copper is both beautiful and true.
Buttercup Festival features someone who isn't the Grim Reaper. Be sure to check out Green Evening Stories while you're there.
Return To Sender hasn't been updated for a while, but you should check it out anyway.
Anne Frank Conquers the Moon Nazis is better than it sounds.

Triplets
02:16 / 20.02.05
My Fox Force Five, in no particular order:

Scary Go Round a supernatural sit-com type written with lilty dialogue
Sinfest a self-conscious Calvin & Hobbes rip-off about a "playa", his mates, Satan and God.
Penny Arcade you must have seen this
Player vs. Player About the lives of a dysfunctional magazine staff
Diesel Sweeties robot porn

Does anyone have a working link to the "Bingo the Clowno" CG animated short? I first saw it about a year ago and now I can't find it anywhere. It is among the creepiest, freakiest, most painstakingly well-produced things I've ever seen online.

C'mon people, give the squirrel a fucking nickel!!!!

Squirrel Songs

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK

On a much less funny and more disturbing tip, The Smoking Gun have Target Practice, the Flash film by Jeff Weise, the kid who shot up his school this week.

Billuccho!

Sh!thouse. Wacky and stupid, but often hilarious.

Ghastly's Ghastly Comic (NOT safe for work) has its moments. Also, though it's not strictly a webcomic, Frazz is pretty delightful. A very zen comic strip, I think.

Has nobody mentioned User Friendly???

I just discovered a marvelous webcomic called Jump.

The same artist does another one called Lola which is shaping up to be even better.

I give another vote towards PBF, and Qwantz is hysterical as well. For those who haven't seen the Lodger Cartoons I would also reccomend those.

Axolotl
18:49 / 18.04.05
I'm a big fan of Player versus Player, especially the way it mixes general soap style storylines with bizarre flights of fancy and various geek parodies.

Alien Loves Predator: In New York, no one can hear you scream.

A definite second for The K Chronicles and I have a big soft spot for Get Fuzzy which is the most consistently funny syndicated strip I have ever read bar Calvin and Hobbes. Webcomix wise, I don't have much to add, and will work through your suggestions.

What I've read of this is ace, much better in fact some of the stuff I'm prone to read off-line.
