Just wondering if any of you magicians (magickians?) use music in your rituals or during the preparation for said rituals. I know from other thread that some of you use drum music but im mainly interested in none tribal (although I know that isnt the right word) but modrn doesnt seem right either.
Currently Im using EBUDAE ,by Enya, played on repeat for a few hours to mellow myself up before a ritual (im considering one during a snow storm of next winter consisting of music which is nothing but songs from the TV show Northern Exposure.

I don't know if this would work for anyone else, but I can usually find Beatles music to assist in meditation. It probably has more to do with my endless hours of listening to their music growing up more than anything else.

I've used God is a DJ by Faithless, during my attempts at sigils. Not sure why, just seems to fit.

I think music (or musick) in a ritual, speccially a Kaothic Ritual, has a lot to do with the magickian's inner self and beliefs. I use Cocteau Twins (cd "Victorialand") and it works perfectly for me. It helps me a lot to stop the exterior sounds and link myself with the magick.

I think you should try some musicians you like, or something that could stop the interminable rumble that's around us (and inside us, too).

My favorite is Plastikman, especially the albums "Sheet One" and "Musik". Hard to describe for those not familiar with it - sort of spacey minimal techno. It's very good for both energetic dancing and meditative trance, although it's best if your stereo is programmable because both discs have a spoken-word track near the middle that can be kind of disruptive. Highly recommended anyway, particularly if you like electronica and just want something new to listen to.

Coil
Pole
Merzbow
Squarepusher - esp. Theme from Ernest Borgnine
Autechre
Black Lung - esp The Invisible College

they all have different feels and lend a particular mood to what I'm doing.

I find that Marvin Gaye and Curtis Mayfield provide a fine occult soundscape.

Coil good.

When they put out their unofficial soundtrack to Hellraiser Clive Barker issued a little blurb that Coil was the only band that could make his bowels churn.

Coil good.

I usually have to participate in making music in order to enter a different state. Dancing is just as good in a different way.

There have been a few albums that had a significant effect on me, particularly Godspeed You Black Emperor’s “Levez-vos Skinny Fists...” I was meditating while listening to “Storm”, and started weeping uncontrollably. I had the feeling something old and broken was being fixed inside me. I’m moved every time I hear it, now.

I’ll have to check out plastikman. I’ve heard great things.
