Will U2 ever bloody well piss off?

Well? It doesn't fucking seem like it.

The short answer would be no.

Shame.

This thread strikes me as being the perfect example of the increase of noise over signal that people are complaining about in both P&H and Conversation at the moment. Is there any chance of it justifying its continued existence within, say, the next ten posts, or should I just put it forward for deletion/locking now?

It's in Convo, Spatch.

Leave it.

Spatula Clarke

Nah, it's okay Dunc. I posted that before the move took effect.

Oh righty.

Locking? Deletion? Noise over signal?

What a lot of fuss about nothing.

Then you might want to read this, and possibly make your point there.

Ok, Spatula, I'll do that. No worries.

Oh, for crying out loud, isn't this section called "Conversation?" So let's converse...

I hate the new album. It's like so much new-age meditation music. But "Vertigo" is just catchy as hell. I can't help but like it.

I guess this should be moved to the music section.

Sorry if I pissed everyone off by actually posting my views on an internet message board.

Yes. We certainly prohibit that.

is it too much to ask that people adress the things they actually don't like about what is actually happening, rather than making stuff up?

As for U2 ... I fear I have lost the picture of Bono shoaking hands with Tony Blair, to go with Bush. Shame. Possibly U2 are a sign of why pop people should stop being in any way famous or successful before they get into politics, like Geldof - otherwise they just look ridiculous from both sides.

OK crap thread. Sorry. Was just watching CD:UK without my girlfriend to rant at, and Bono's head made me angry. Delete, lock or ignore if you want - it was only a joke.

Don't apologise, MacGyver, you haven't done anything wrong.

Just to clarify here - this thread was originally in music - up until the spatula post - and then it was suggested for moving here (I'm guessing by Spatula though I could be wrong)as a better alternative than deletion or locking. That move was agreed by enough mods for it to end up here.

So, I'm no longer cool and hep by liking U2? Damn.

It IS still all right to think that REM was a good band until they fired their drummer, isn't it, because when I saw them live at the "Vote 4 Change" tour, I was pretty shocked at how much I still liked their old stuff and had no connection at all to anything after the CD "Monster."

Haus of Mystery

REM are fine. Because, you see, Bono's head is not in REM.

So, any band that does not feature Bono's head is all right?

I can pull out all of my RUSH and Jethro Tull CDs and I won't be mocked as I sing along with them?

For some reason, I don't trust you...

Listen to whatever you like, Solitaire. Sing along, too. Piss off your neighbours. Fuck the mockers. Be a mockerfucker.

Now you're getting it kid. If a band was to feature, say, someone wearing a giant paper mache Bono-head, then I'm not sure where I stand.

Egads what a thought. With a little Bono ventriliquists dummy.

I'm gonna have to lie down...

i think i've seen large-headed papier mache U2s before, for some reason my mind has them linked with chris evans. in reality, bono HASN'T got a huge annoying inflata-me-head, it's just the desperate cuban heels that make his sensibly-proportioned frame and phizzog look so weirdly loomish.

quickie radio 1 joke: what's the difference between god and bono? god doesn't spend his days walking around the place thinking he's bono.

Sorry bearo, I'm probably just being pathologically computer-dumb but the link didn't seem to work.

Ok here's my fantastic U2 joke (can't remember where I heard it):

How many members of U2 does it take to change a light bulb?
None, Bono just holds on to the bulb and the world revolves around him.

Aye, they first appeared on tfi Friday. They're in the vid for 'The Sweetest Thing', which is my fave U2 song.

Yeah, didn't that tribute band wear giant heads? The Joshua Trio or somesuch- they appeared when I (koff) saw U2 on the Zooropa tour (look, they were giving away free tickets to the unemployed and I wanted to see the cool TV screens and stuff, alright?)

Haus of Mystery

Was Bono's head projected onto the screens?. Cos then it'd be like some virtual paper mache Bono-head. Which is futuristic. And scary.
