Tips for a magical journey

I'm going to Machu Picchu in two months and I need some guidance..What should I seek there? Try to contact the spirits? Do some proper divination before embarking on the trip? Get some shrooms? Pray to some Incaic god to stop me from asking to many questions to strangers?

Well, the thing is, it's just me and two friends, backpacking. They'll take care of the practical stuff (finding places to sleep, getting maps, eating) while I'm in the Mystical Experiences Department. And if they don't come back from the trip as if they've had too much hashish in some indian city and talked to UFO's, they're gonna be mad at me.

So, be a good pal and help your fellow 'lither, 'k?

Uh - what do you normally do in the applied spirituality department? Have any of you folks chatted up spirits before? Taken psychedelics? Do you get powerfully serene feelings from natural environments? What exactly do you mean by 'mystical experience'? Do you mean 'get blown away by the beauty of this place,' or are you serious about the UFO thing? Because, in my experience, if you or your friends go in with this 'must see ET' attitude, you'll miss the spiritual experience when it bites you on the ass. And trying to summon up a spirit just to have a trippy experience on a vacation seems like a poor way to get to know such a being, or anyone else.

I don't mean to sound too harsh. I'm sure you'll have a great trip, but your question needs more specific details about what you're looking to get out of this, and what you're looking to put into it.

It really comes down to you and your mates. You may be taking a vacation from your homeland, but you're not taking a vacation from yourself. What do you do? Would you want to make some 'Good Vacation' prayer bag, or fill your first footsteps on the hike with honey, pot, flowers, and so forth? Would your friends want to participate in some kind of ritual? Or do y'all want to smoke some grass and watch the blades of grass ripple in the wind?

The environment looks divine. I think you'd have a powerful experience just by keeping your eyes and ears open as wide as possible. Meditate while walking around. Talk to the hills and the ruins. Listen for the echoes of past life rolling over the landscape. Listen to its present, as old structures creak and collapse into new ones.

I would suggest that you find a curandero who works with plantteacher, in the andes the mainplatn they use is the mescaline containing San Pedro. There are people that offer workshops and more arranged tours, but they usually cost a lot, so it might be wiser to just look up someone locally.

There is also a lot of sacred spots and interesting buildings around cusco.

I agree with Charlie's Horse. Still yourself, and treat the whole thing like it's spinning at you out of nothing,i.e., be in the moment. Feel. The stuff will be there, trust me. Things get dicey when people try to wring something out of an experience, instead of experiencing it as an unfolding event. Your desire to have an unusual experience will manifest that way, when you are open like that. Of course, you could do a magickal working to have an "unusual experience". In that case, do remember to fasten your seat-belts..... those kinds of roller-coasters can have very high G-forces.....

The thing is, there's so many tourists in these places that it's hard to find some peace...I think I'll do a general working to experience the journey to the fullest, and then keep myself open to whatever comes up.
And thanks for the San Pedro tip, I was thinking of Ayahuasca myself, but that can be useful...
