This may be the first in a series of new topics started by me, because a friend of a friend has been giving me all his old comics. It's mostly Marvel and DC but some stuff I've never heard of before, so maybe all you lovely Barbe-comic book experts may be able to offer your musings, insights and critiques. That'd be grand. Tea and crumpets for all who reply!

First off though, I just finished reading this one. Seems like your standard, ho-hum, run-of-the-mill post-apocalyptic disaster story, but with added mordant wit and no-bullshit monosyllabic yet unexpectedly articulate characters. Hey, tickled me, anyway.

could you elaborate?

I remember the name but seem to only come up with the basic premis of Strikeforce Mortuary when I recall any details.

Basically, a bunch of hairy-looking aliens have long since invaded and conquered Earth. There are tiny pockets of resistance but there's this underlying theme that the human race ain't really worth saving anyway so who gives a shit?

Much possessed of this opinion is Slash Maraud, a sort-of ass-kicking bounty hunter type (imagine a skinny Russell Crowe) who gets coaxed into joining up with a gang of similarly ass-kicking lesbians who drive sports cars on monster truck wheels.

Coaxer-in-chief here is Wild Blue (I think that was her name) who wears a monochrome leopard-skin leotard and has huge blue hair. They have this vague romantic past, of course, but then Slash gets pulled by one of the sports-car lesbians (ok, they're not all lesbians then? Ok, whatever) and the resulting jealousy surprisingly fails to get in the way of defeating the fuzzy aliens, who are meanwhile trying to poison the Earth by using the Eiffel Tower as a giant syringe.

I hope that jogs your memory, because I still haven't figured out how to post links!

I remember this. I bought the mini-series a couple years after it came out because it seemed like a neat idea, a departure from the usual hero-in-tights fare. My initial reaction was disappointment. It was a little cartoony. But I don't think it was ever meant to be more than an adventure comic for kids, so I don't think my criticism is relevant.

High Point: The use of the Eiffel Tower as a syringe.
Low Point: The Chicago Bears.

I remember this comic, in fact was just thinking about it the other day and wondering if it might survive a re-reading. I loved paul Gulacy's work and it was sort of a MAD MAX crossed with WAR OF THE WORLDS, I dunno. it had insectoid characters and sexy women, so it was good.
