Cowboy boots don't seem to be particulary popular here in Ohio, but I've been wearing them for years instead of the standard dress shoes required for my job. Not only are they remarkably comfortable (if you buy hand-made as opposed to machine-made ones) but they also have a couple other advantages.
First, they are about the only kind of footwear that still has a significant manufacturing base in the U.S. I'm not a huge "buy American" guy, but the footwear industry has been pretty notorious for its employment habits in developing countries.
Second, they make cowboy boots out of some pretty cool critters. I own boots made of stingray, bullhide, alligator, holstein cow (fur on), horsehide, and wildebeast. Certainly, they're not for everyone, but they're a hell of a lot more interesting than black oxfords.
If you want to see some great boots made by a family owned company in El Paso, check out caboots.com. Wild things. |
