Cowboy Boots

Round my way, which I like to think of as v hip, tres cutting edge, quite the place and so on, I've noticed the young people wearing these things. The look appears to be long hair, army jacket, black jeans tucked, horrendously, in to a pair of hand-tooled boots that hypothetical Aunt Grace might have notionally brought back from her conceptual two week sex-cruise in Cancun, because she never really liked you much anyway.

Is this a widespread phenomenon ? Or is it time to move ? Or have I just been crinking 2 much Old Spice, again ?

I tuck trousers into all boots- paras, biker boots- but then, I've never worn cowboy boots. Does that make a difference?

Bloody hell - haven't seen that. It was an early 80s, new romantic-ish thing, no? Look at an old Duran Duran video and you'll see it - the're wearing 'em

Cowboy boots don't seem to be particulary popular here in Ohio, but I've been wearing them for years instead of the standard dress shoes required for my job. Not only are they remarkably comfortable (if you buy hand-made as opposed to machine-made ones) but they also have a couple other advantages.

First, they are about the only kind of footwear that still has a significant manufacturing base in the U.S. I'm not a huge "buy American" guy, but the footwear industry has been pretty notorious for its employment habits in developing countries.

Second, they make cowboy boots out of some pretty cool critters. I own boots made of stingray, bullhide, alligator, holstein cow (fur on), horsehide, and wildebeast. Certainly, they're not for everyone, but they're a hell of a lot more interesting than black oxfords.

If you want to see some great boots made by a family owned company in El Paso, check out caboots.com. Wild things.

For the love of all that is holy, if anybody is going to wear cowboy boots, wear your pants over them, not tucked in.

That kind of thing gets your ass kicked in my neck of the woods.

Don't worry, it's a British/Irish thing. I didn't see any trousers in boots people in the States when I was there in January. The good people of Barbelith are safe from ass-kicking (at least, safe from cowboy boot faux-pas related ass-kicking).

Just to be clear, we are talking about women wearing cowboy boots over jeans, aren't we? If men have started doing this, then I haven't noticed - although perhaps for the same reason that Bruce Willis can't see blood in Color Of Night.

Well the cowboy boot disease has definitley started to appear here in Massachusetts. (Men wearing them, pants *not* tucked in). I've never seen such a display of Memes in action. Friend of mine got a pair, bought another pair but they didn't fit - passed them on to another friend. Third friend absolutely has to buy a pair only about 2 weeks after. A few days later, previously mentioned friend starts wearing the ones donated to him, and now *I* want them - and I don't even like them. Now an ever growing number of people within my circle of friends has started wearing them. It really seems like people don't "buy" cowboy boots so much as they "come down with a case of the cowboy boots".
