Firekind

This year is probably going to be a good year for John Smith. It's certainly going to be a good one for his fans, albeit an expensive one. A secong volume of his 'Devlin Waugh' stories is coming soon (reprinting the mega-epic with Steve Yeowell art, amongst other things), there's a complete 'Indigo Prime' collection due in the summer and more 'Devlin Waugh' promised in the 'egazine'and 'Tyranny Rex' in '2000 A.D'. as well as his new series with Paul Marshall 'Leatherjack' which was tantalisingly described as 'epic' in a recent issue.

And, presumably to tie in with the new series 'Firekind' is being reprinted in '2000 A.D. Extreme Edition' #8 due Mid April. For those of you who don't know the title it's a bi-monthly repeat title with the best of the house of Tharg. It'll cost you £2.99 and as the strip clocks in at about 70 pages there'll no doubt be something else to back it up. Expect an oddly eccentric choice if previous editions are anything to go by.

For those of you who don't know the story...I don't know what I can say without spoiling it. Alien Dragons. Xenobiologists. Stuff. If you like John Smiths work then it's worth trying. Heck, even if you don't like his stuff at that price it's worth a go. Firekind was one of the few gems in the mire of drekk that was 2k in the late 90's. It's initial publication was marred by episodes published in the wrong order but this time, standing along and properly presented, it should be real treat to brighten up April.

And before you take the piss for me starting another 2k thread ask yourself who e;se is going to tell you of such Zarjazz goodness? And no, I don't get paid by Tharg for doing it.

You spelt 'Zarjaz' wrong.

Yeah, you did.

I do like Smithy though, so thanks.

Me too. Very moist about the 'Sirius rising/ Red Tide' collection. He wrote 'Cinnabar' the all time best Rogue Trooper story.

Yeah, cheers Dave.

I love the way you keep waving the 2000AD banner.

D'you reckon they'll manage to print all the episodes in the correct order this time?

Whoops. That's what I get for skim-reading.

Just to say that I seem to have mistaken which issue of the E.E. Firekind is in. According tot he current Prog it's actually in the NEXT issue, number 7, which is due in shops on the 23rd of FEBRUARY, so it should be around for your delectation in a week and a bit.

Logically I should have realised this as I was thinking it was 'Meltdown Man' in the next issue but that would probably have to be split over two issues. Now I've got to say I'm rather pleased to get my hands on this sooner rather than later and if previous issues are anything to judge by there should also be a Scrotnig new cover to go along with it.

Picked this up today, haven't had a chance to read it yet though. The cover is dated 1991, but doesn't appear to be a cover from the original issues, maybe it was a back cover or pinup or something.

The rest of the mag is old Invasion strips.

I believe it's a new cover but I could be wrong. Certainly all the previous issues have had new covers. It's really rather good isn't it?

I was hoping that the rarely reprinted 'Slaineragonheist' would be the back up story but I won't complain about more Bill Savage. Ah well, there'll be plenty of Massimo Belardinelli dungeons and dragons soon.
