I have to admit to being a little disturbed by the anger - yes, anger - that has bubbled up in response to Quimper's recent postings.... Gypsy, Lepidopteran, et al, I urge you towards compassion and understanding. Because hatred is just not not very Magical, is it?
Fuck you. I couldn't give a fuck what you think. If it disturbs you that much wear a fucking helmet when you read the...
Only kidding. It's not hatred, it's not even anger, it's Severity. Which is as important to a healthy and productive magical life, community and, indeed, functioning message board, as Mercy and compassion are.
Quimper 666 spent much of last week engaging in troll-like activity, posting third rate conspiracy rants, then getting upset when they were met with the sort of criticism that, I strongly believe, raises the temple forum above the average inane magic/conspiracy message board. S/he showed no signs of being interested in addressing any of these criticisms or contributing to the wider discussion, and ended up randomly trolling another thread with comments of the "you sad, pathetic wankers" variety.
That, to my mind, would be grounds enough to tell someone to fuck off and go somewhere else. Which I think I did at the time. The onus is now on Quimper 666 to prove that, if s/he is going to stick around, s/he is going to contribute something other than abuse and one-sided rants. If s/he does that, then great, barbelith can never have enough interesting and intelligent posters. But, based on their history of rants about psychic enlightenment via raping babies, I'm not going to hold my breath for that. The third rule of magic: act like a twat, expect to be treat like a twat.
I am fairly tolerant. As soon as Quimper 666 said they were trying to be on their best behaviour, I stopped taking shots and instantly withdrew from the thread. That, to my mind, is tolerance and compassion. Everyone deserves a second chance.
Incidentally, MacGregor Mathers, 21 year old bohemian magical prodigy who was single handedly responsible for composing much of the structure of what we've inherited as "western occultism", ain't so bad a role model to have in my book. |
