i like to play music and record it, and have been thinking about putting messages, suggestions, and charging my music with the power to change things. in a sense it is subliminal, but i was thinking of adding mantras deep down in the mix so thatyou can't quite make out what the sounds are, but know they are there, at least subconsciously. i don't know if any of this makes sense, and its still rough in my mind. just wondering if any of you have tried similar things in various fields of art.

I write lyrics, and my main drive has been to liberate myself from any kind of simple reader/response theory, to the extent to which I can interact with what I create on a similar level to an audience unfamiliar with the creative process involved in construction. I realised several years ago that my intention was to create a “song being” - a living organism defined by language and music. Since then, I’ve created a number of such beings (as well as punk theology bombs), that have interacted in very interesting ways with the people who have experienced them (and that’s all from just the language - no music has been added, yet).

Call me slow on the uptake, but it took me a while to link my theory with my developing understanding of Servitors. What do you think? Have I been programming song-Servitors?

Why do all the interesting musicians come from places other than Southampton?

The answer may be staring me directly in the face...

I'm posting on this relatively aged topic to keep an interesting idea from falling into obscurity. I'd like to hear more about this. My 2 cents are that in the way of music, I know Marilyn Manson's done it, especially with Antichrist Superstar, and I'd bet good money that Tool does it. As for art, Giger seems like the kind of guy to do such things.

I am interested very similarly to you karma farma, in both ways. I am interested in mixing magic with my music. And guess what it sounds like our musical interests are similar too. I'd love to hear some of your stuff. I'm currently trying to design a website mainly as an accessible platform for my music.

In regards to the magic side of things see the bang the drum thread and also a little story.

I have recently been experiementing with shamanic techniques which involve a lot of rythm. I have dicovered that I already have deep connections to this rythmic magic even though I have only recently begun practising it "officially". I'm starting to feel like the rythms are quite sacred and my music seems to be redfining itself in my mind - its hard to explain. I have also long been interested in actively involoving magic and music. They seem to be increasingly linked, even part of one and other.

So what techniques do people actually use to make their music "magickal?" karma farma seems to have a few tricks up his/her sleeve: what about the rest of you?
