Anybody know anything about augury? or robins?

So I was walking home after a particularly troubling day at work and I notice the whole block is covered in robins. I know starlings gather together in huge flocks, but they mainly stay in the trees. These robins were everywhere-all over the ground, the trees, the sidewalk, cars, the roofs of buildings-I mean everywhere. Never before have I seen this many robins in one place.

So my question is twofold:

a)Is there a natural explanation for this behavior?

b)What sort of mythology, superstitions, folktales, etc. are associated with robins?

I'm also interested in other people's experiences with divination utilising events in the natural world.

Robins travel in large groups so there's a good chance these ones were looking for food and took a rest, do you live near woodland?

It don't think its that common to see a large group of them though, maybe they were having a party or there was a lot of food in the area?

You didn't recently buy a lovebird did you?

Oooh looks like the modfairy gave my topic a summary

Actually, bearo, I live in the city. The block in question was near the college campus. There are a quite a few trees around, but not enough to qualify as woodland.

No I don't have a lovebird (got both a cat and a snake, so it would be a conflict of interest, as it were). Why do you ask?

Sorry that lovebirds was just a bad The Birds joke... apparently Robins can be seen as sign of a fresh start a new beginning.

Heheh, I thought of the Birds too when it happened, but these guys didn't look threatening; they were just chilling out.

The weather has been kind of freaky lately, and spring IS around the corner, so maybe there was some kind of migration confusion going on.

is it spring where you live? I mean do you live in the austral hemisphere? That would make sense, as it looks like a mating ritual to me. If it is not spring where you live, then check out big power plants or power cables in general, they tend to dazzle their "internal compass" and they often end up lost and tired.
If all fails: augury should be about you, the way reality has to send you a message, it is really not different from syncronicities in general: what do robins mean for you? have you noticed an abbundance of robin-symbols in your life recently? (anything goes: robin as in batman and or a person called robin for example).
If it IS spring where you live, I think I'll hate you from here, underneath the snow!:-)

Technically it's still winter. But the weather didn't actually start getting really cold until the beginning of January, then one day it would be 4 degrees(F), the next it would be fifty.
