The Libertines I didn't like at all. Sorry

That's ok. I don't know anyone else who does to be honest.

B-but Suedey, unless you've changed your look since you posted that pic in the photographs thread, you could be in The Libertines...

I am so fed up with people saying that! First it was the Strokes, then it was... I dunno, some other band. "How's your band going?" "What band?" "That was a great gig last night" "Huh?" - I mean! I shaved my head to get away from it all, but it just grew back. Damn hair. It's like it's default setting, or something. I am just doomed to be the perpetual indie kid.

Unless I put on a lot of weight, or something. Oooh, chocolate.

Fluxblog is where I get all my new music recommendations. Really, just browse that and you'll find TREASURE.

I can second the Devo recommendation, although I also like Death Cab for Cutie.

I'd also recommend The Long Winters -- there are mp3s up at the site. They're on the same label as DCFC (and produced by some members -- there's a lot of crossing over on Barsuk, apparently), but much less densely atmospheric and much more poppy. Like, hook central.

Thanks for the plug, Grant. I recommend checking out the other mp3 blogs on my blogroll for tips - you should be able to find a pretty wide range of stuff you might like that way. There's a few really great things on Music For Robots and 'Buked And Scorned right now, but they are all worth checking out.

I can't get that "Summer Shoulders" song out of my mind, Flux.

Two other recommendations for Cameron:

Kid Dakota, a brilliant indie band who were championed early on by another brilliant producer/singer/songwriter, John Vanderslice.

Mp3s are on both of those sites (my picks: "Get Her Out of my Heart" from Kid Dakota and "My Old Flame" off JV's Time Travel is Lonely). Unfortunately, Vanderslice's Tiny Telephone site is no longer offering the mountains of free mp3s they once were. But the links on both sites are great resources. I'm also fond of Work of Saws.

I almost forgot - The Brian Jonestown Massacre have every single album they've recorded up for download, here.

The new Bright Eyes albums are really good too, I think.

He's the new Dylan. I don't know if anyone's even heard of the guy - I guess I keep my ear closer to the ground than some of you out there, not because I'm hipper, please don't get me wrong, it's just that I still really care about music.

Carrie Brownstein of Sleater-Kinney had a side-project called the Spells. They only did a four-song EP, and one of the songs is a Who cover (Can't Explain). The style is kind of like a stripped-down "Funeral Song," maybe. And if you like that, you can check out the other half of the Spells, Mary Timony (Of Helium).

Corin Tucker's side-project, Cadallaca, is hit-and-miss. The album doesn't do anything for me, but the EP (I think it's called "Out West") is pretty cool, and has one of my favorite songs, "The Trouble With Puclic Places."

insound has a great radio feature that lets you hear tracks by really good bands. most of what has been mentionned here passed there and they always have good recommendations.

Wow, Alex's post is either a masterpiece of sarcasm or incredibly cringe-inducing.

Cameron, you seriously need Prefuse 73 on your iPod. Get "One Word Extinguisher," it's a freaking monster of chopped hip hop goodness.

i love prefuse 73, too, but he said he didn't like Mouse on Mars because it was too chaotic, so he may not like One Word Extinuisher, either.

Extinguished Outakes is surprisingly more coherent, but if you're looking for the standout track, it's all about "Suite For The Way Things Change". Four minutes of perfection.

As a matter of fact, I never listen to whole albums on my iPod, so here are THE tracks you need in '05.

"Hate It Or Love It" by The Game
"Tsuragi No Mai" by Nujabes (don't worry, you'll find it on the Samurai Champloo album Katana).

Damn, I wanted to do a whole list and only ended up with two. Have I really only been listening to two songs for the past two weeks? Well, that, and one of those new live Soul Coughing albums from Kufala. I'm sorry, was there a thread happening?

Right. I noticed Madvillain on there. Well, don't ever leave home without the seven times more amazing King Geedorah, Take Me To Your Leader.

But those two tracks I mentioned are hard core golden. Just put them in a Playlist titled "The Best" and put it on repeat.

(Oh, and that Soul Coughing live album was the New York one in '99, available on iTMS. It's an accurate portrayal of them being the best live band on the planet ever.)

Personally believe you really, really should have some some of the following bands included...

Primal Scream
Birthday Party
Bauhaus
Belle and Sebastian
The Lucksmiths
Cabaret Voltaire
The Fall
Elastica
The Jesus and Mary Chain
Pop will Eat Itself
Soft Cell

Popping up randomly, a multitude of songs from these bands help me evoke a creative vibe...plus help me shake my money-maker.
