I communicate with Herman Hesse once in the Arizona desert without having any idea who he was.
Is he dead or alive still?

Kriztalyne:

Do you mean perceiving certain individuals as representative of certain types of divinities, or actually worshipping people? Because I've done the former.

For example, certain types of music puts me in various headspaces which make it easier to connect with various aspects of divinity. So if a band makes music that reminds me of Shiva, I'll make sure that band's album is playing while I'm interacting with Shiva.

That doesn't mean that the band themselves are Shivaites, or that I'm treating them as Shiva incarnate.

visualzing myself as that person. (who I know very little about and never expect to personally meet.) worshipping people too. though I think that would have either really bad or really good results for me. in this case I do know them.

Worshipping living people is, in my opinion, a very bad mistake. It's also worse if you know them. Each time I try to use the form of a person I know to help focus energies into a magico-religious experience, I fuck up my relationship with them. I've tried it twice and can say it was one of the worst decisions of my life. The problem is that people you know can mix different aspects of themselves into the godform you're trying to impose upon them. In both cases, this was a bad thing.

Also, "godform" implies your inferiority far from mere humility.

A possible exception might arise if you could each worship each other in turn, both participating in enough ritual to manipulate your minds.

Visualising yourself as that person would be interesting. I don't see much harm in that, except that you won't truly understand them in doing so. Maybe you'll just understand them a bit better. I would rather advise creating a fictional character based off of the person you wish to emulate and emulating that fictional character.

I would think that most celebrities or musicians or whatever may as well be fictional characters or dead personas, since our perceptions of them are filtered through media. But if you did have cause to meet the person you're using as a godform, I expect that you'd immediately see the discrepancy between the person-as-they-are and the person-you-envisioned. I don't know if that is a problem or not.

Not simply a "...possible exception," but an important part of some types of (dare I say it--oh the taboo ) sex magick (a.k.a. tantric magic).

Kriztalyne: I gave this quite a bit of thought last night, and now that you've clarified I do have an example for you that worked (for me).

A few years ago I was in a personal situation that wasn't too good. There was a great deal of drama surrounding me, and not a lot of honesty. I really wasn't sure how to exit the situation gracefully, so I devised a ritual where each of the elements was represented by a highly skilled, talented actor who made a living doing cheesy horror movies. (Which is how my life felt at that point. )

If I recall correctly:

Air: Peter Cushing
Water: Vincent Price
Fire: Christopher Lee
Earth: Boris Karloff

I got myself psyched up for the ritual by watching a plethora of Hammer, AIP and Universal films featuring the aformentioned actors. (And drinking port.)

My intention was not to become these gentlemen per se, but to access the ability to take a really crappy situation and use my skills to turn things around in my favor. Those guys took awful scripts, cheap sets, talentless co-stars, and the constant negativity of being called "has-beens" and created memorable performances and characters. That was the vibe I wanted to activate within myself in order to handle the melodrama in my social life.

It was really sucessful; I felt very calm, sophisticated and suave (yet menacing and saturnine). Within a month of doing the ritual, I got rid of all those drama queens that were draining my energy and my life became much calmer.

Wow. That sparks some interesting ideas in my little ol' head. I like the thought process behind it, about making the best of being in a B-movie. Anyone else try anything like this? I might.

What about fictional characters from movies and such? Anyone try that? Or is that a topic for a different thread?

Can I just say thank you for this thread. A friend of mine seems to be having problems lately. We have been friends for a very long time.

This thread has given me the idea to approach these problems form alternative perspectives. I will have to think about it for a while...

Again Thanks

In response to Kriztalyne's orignal post I don't think it would be "bad". But you are likely to obtain resluts different form your intentions. Living people have very many facets to their "personalities" or "selves" if you are planning on worship because you think these people have traits you would like to posess (as seems to be the inference) chances are they also have traits you'd rather not touch with a ten foot proverbial.

If you like something about the way in which person x y z conducts themselves one option might be to closely observe their behaviour. Watch the person(s) in different situations and see how they react to circumstances, you will start to notice patterns which will help to unravel the mystery as well as most likely demystifying the person(s) as well.

Tell me if I'm totally off track.
