yep, picked up the first issue of MULTIPLE. Haven't fully read it yet, but I love the usual corny Brandon Graham visual jokes ("Mao and Later" on a Mao tse Tung statute, etc.) and silly graffiti.

Garr! No sign of it anywhen in the city. Is there some sort of direct-from-publisher method of buying it? Or do I need to wait for them to (hopefully) collect it so I can grab from Amazon?

...especially because I've finished Escalator and want some more. I enjoyed the little Multiple Warheadz short-short at the end of the collection.

I could poke about at my lcs and see if they have any more if your attempts prove fruitless. But Oni ought to have some kind of ordering service?

SCORE! Just ordered myself a copy because I'm a dirty degenerate Sexica-slave primate.

Multiple Warheads is pretty, pretty and fun - I haven't bought one of these lovely little reassuringly expensive black and white indie things in a while, and this one reminds me why they can be worth it sometimes.

There's stuff I'm interested in talking about in terms of its content, specifically to do with sex and the eroticised presentation of characters, but that might have to wait until I've thought about it more, and am not in the office.

Have you had some time to think about it, Flyshaftoe? I would like to talk about it, perhaps; better to ignore the moths mating atop my external hard drive.

After a very long, long, long day of walking around at work like a zombie, then heading over to my buddy's house to work on rewrites for a story, I stumbled home and there, beside my door, was a package from Oni.

It's oddly reassuring in this world to find a package come for you that's been addressed by hand in thick, black Sharpie rather than having some order form printed out and adhered to the cardboard. And inside? Multiple Warheads #1, all stiff-backed and lovely. The Fall. I'm reading it in short clumps, very slowly, like I'd read Casanova; there's a lot of visual information (and a lot of space too; Graham's up there with Quitely in terms of giving space to his drawings, even if they don't quite operate with the same sense of depth as FQ) to take in.

Damn, it's fucking hard finding this guy's work (my local retailer says the publisher doesn't bring out to certain parts of the world; and the only bookstore I could find that has anything -- only King City -- only delivers in 5 weeks -- can't even find scans to read while I wait).

I'm dying to read these. It seems basically the little things I like in Morrison's works like Seaguy and Vinamarama, only with a bit of eroticism and more liquifyingly slick.

B.G. posted a page out of KING CITY 2 on his deviantart. We've got about a year to wait. Damn.

Anyone have any idea when the next issue of Multiple Warheads is out? Because the Oni Press website isn't so much with the user-friendly design and I yearn. O, how I yearn.

did I mention Brandon was nominated for an Ignatz Award for "Promising New Talent"? Well, he was.

Thanks for the King City 2 link; hadn't seen that yet...

oh, and he's said that Multiple Warheads will be sporadic one-shots.... right now he's devoting full time getting KING CITY 2 done and a few other little things as well (anthology stories, etc.)

Actually, I just saw this -- from his Deviant Art page comments thingie:

>> I'm working on king city 2 now but I think another multiple warhedz book will see print before im done. (kc books are 180 pages--they take a while)

there is more (new) King City 2 art posted on Graham's deviantart page, linked above.

And for the 5 people who read it/knew about it, early indications are that Graham's old miniseries UNIVERSE SO BIG, published by Radio Comics years ago, will be collected in paperback by Oni Press in the near future. (Radio Comics only released 2 of the 3 issues of the mini - the 3rd and final issue was never published due to low sales. So this would be the only time the full story sees print - hopefully this will come through, it's a great story)

Jog talks about KING CITY. Pretty comprehensive little discussion of the book, both good sides and bad.

I read Elevator a while ago and enjoyed it a lot. Just picked up and finished King City.

A friend of mine described it as "Transmet done right" and as glib as that is, I felt like King City was a genuinely inventive future city story. The cat master stuff was clever and interesting in the way it extended beyond the weapon aspect I initially read about in reviews. I think even die-hard superhero fans would enjoy this as it features some pretty over the top elements and scenarios - and if you replaced the cat with a set of mechanical gadgets, what would the story be like?

Do any of you know how many issues October Yen is?

FinderWolf
22:51 / 26.06.08
nope -- from memory, maybe it's something like 3 issues... or a one-shot...? October Yen is so old I never even saw a physical copy.

Graham is said to be trying to take KING CITY 2 to a different publisher, given all of the upheaval/restructuring at TokyoPop lately...

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy

Are they available in torrent anywhere? His older stuff, I mean. I haven't been able to find anything from prior to Escalator.

And of course, I want KING CITY 2 so bad I can taste it in my toes.

I would say it's a very safe bet - at least 90% - that they are not available on Torrent of any kind, mostly because there are so few humans in the world that even own copies of October Yen, and it's not like Graham is SO famous at this point that the people who own his stuff are preserving everything for history, the way they might have done, say, Grant Morrison's work or Frank Miller's work(just as an example).

all that was available from Graham prior to Escalator is a bunch of porn comics from NBM (Perverts of the Unknown is probably still available from NBM; and yes, that title is a riff of Challengers of the Unknown - it's that rare thing, a witty, clever, humorous porn comic...no, seriously), various guest appearances in equally rare and hard-to-find issues of MEATHAUS, the comics collective where James Jean, Dash Shaw, Farel Dalrymple, Tomer Hankuna and many other had their first (self-published) comics work... and Brandon also had a few stories in 2 issues of Heavy Metal years back, I think.

He also did 2 issues of a 3-issue mini called Universe So Big for Radio Comics (equally rare and hard to find since it had such an almost nonexistent print run), and Radio never published the 3rd issue due to low sales (well, Radio Comics barely made any money on ANY of their titles as it is). Brandon said he's shopping the idea of a collective, nice shiny new paperback of Universe So Big to Oni and to TokyoPop, and it sounds like Oni may give him a better deal so he'll probably go with Oni. But it's still not an instant sell, this paperback I speak of... the series is terrific, though, and worth bringing to the public eye in a reprint. Formative and quality Graham stuff. I think it will eventually get the trade paperback treatment, just could take a year or so.

NBM is out of Perverts of the Unknown but I did get Pillow Fight from them about 2 weeks ago...
I scored Universe So Big from Radio Comix awhile back, don't know if they still have any.
Thanks for the info on October Yen.

TokyoPop and Image have united to form... VOLTRON! King City will be back in a few months in single issue form, reprinting Vol. 1 with new backup stories and then going into Vol. 2, also single issues. Cover quotes/recommendations by James Jean, Bryan Lee O'Malley and featured in New York Magazine. Seriously. Check this out when it returns.. I know a lot of people can't find the out-of-print KING CITY Vol. 1 thick manga book. anyway, carry on. See B. Graham's livejournal somewhere above.
