I hope this hasn't been posted before.

Nice long quiz, written especially for those folks who can never remember who did the stupid song, but damned if you can't still sing along with every single word...

80's Music Song Lyrics Quiz

Not only do you get a score, you get commentary on each of your answers, which is fun.

I scored so high I am embarrassed.

88. I can live with that.

79. I'm a little disappointed, frankly... fuck it, I only just woke up.

93.5, but I've seen it before when me and my mate who's even geekier than me had a look at it, so I may be remembering some from then.

I did best on the metal lyrics, unsurprisingly enough.

Final Score: 41.85, but only because there wasn't enough Duran Duran.

Then again my earliest memory is from abouuut 1987, give or take a year. (I'm either young, an alchoholic. Or Wolverine. Spin the wheel!)

86.5, and almost every one that I got wrong was only half wrong. It turns out I simply have misheard the lyrics all these years.

I think this site might be for you, Dwight. (rhymey!)

How long before WP posts with 110%?

yeah, I had a lot of half-wrongs, too. Plurals for singulars, stuff like that.
And yeah, not enough Duran Duran.
And surely the inclusion of Nine Inch Nails' Head Like A Hole was a bit shit cos it was first released as an album track in 1990 (the single didn't even come out until the following year)?

Oh, Jeebus it's worse than I thought, then... I scored a 113. I actually knew a couple of the ones I missed. I got all the bonus questions right, too.

I'm going to give up and go buy some leg warmers now...

Well 42.4
I couldn't get most of them, but I got a few obscure ones, so that made up for it. It's always annoyed me that the 80s went over my head.

I got 50 points. I would´ve gotten more, but I misspelled billie jean ("Wrong. Try Billie Jean. (Yes, I'm picky on spelling it the way the artist did. Tough. 2077 lines of code... my perogative...(everybody's talking all the stuff about me...))"), and I didn´t know the English version of Falco´s Kommissar ("Dra di net um, ohohoh,...").

Oh, and wrote when dogs cry, instead of doves...

Hmm. I've just started it but I find some of the phrases are too short to be able to start singing it and work out what it's from.

And I'm glad I read the whole thread so I can go and correct my spelling of billie jean before doing the rest of the quiz. One more point for me!

82.5!

Considering I spent the 80's in the middle of a desert where the only radio station was the BBC World Service, a score of 46.5 is an achievement. And I too, didn't know the English lyrics to Der Kommissar (but I did get Rock Me Amadeus).

Really low score (44). Never mind. I thought the scoring was kind of weird (eg you get four points for "working as a [ ] in a [ ] bar" which, like, everybody in the world knows, shurely? But he says "no-one gets this". And also, did anyone in the UK have MTV in 1985? Um, not that I'm bitter, I'm just genuinely curious about this. I only got MTV in April this year, and I've had cable since 1999).

I think the quiz is aimed at Americans, as that bonus question about "I'm only a Bill" indicates. Nobody who didn't grow up in the US in the 80's knows about that thing. Unless they were educated by someone who did. And considering it's unlikely to come up in casual conversation the possibility of this happening is pretty low. I mean, when was the last time you talked to someone about political education cartoons of your childhood? S'not really something people talk about, in all honesty. More's the pity really. I'll shut up now.

135.5! I was already in my twenties when the 80's started though (and wore leg warmers, as indicated above), so not that surprising.

Head Like A Hole was never an eighties song, surely? Nor the Sandi Shaw one, perhaps Girl Don't Come? Guess some West Coast punk band might have covered it.

Quiz perpetrator's command of the English language was very poor too but this has whiled away a large chunk of a Friday morning when I should be working. Good enough.

I figured it was a special US release by Paul McCartney. I put "fool" and "hill" and got half points I think.
