Sou[l]ndless PC saga

so my old [ancient] IBM PC 6GB HD has bad blocks that sent the machine to a coma. my fixer friend was able to bring it back, but I'll have to buy a new HD - no money for that now. the C:\ section has to be formated and I loose all the softwares [files section is intact], and have to grab them gain.

no sweat, but there's no sound here. drive for the soundcard is missing/was outdated. 'delete/uninstall it and reboot. Windows automatically installs another,' friend says.

and... nothing. worked for the first time whan I had to format the HD. an app gave me this info about my system/motherboard etc:

the card seems to be Crystal CS 4235 but everytime I kickstar the PC it tries to locate software for the 'Onboard PnP Audio'.

is it bad, doc? I need my sou[l]nd back.

Nah. Probably just an IRQ conflict ("just", he says. Oh, how it is to laugh.).
Best bet is to register with driverguide at:
http://www.soundcard-drivers.com/drivers/57/57343.htm
and grab the file you want. Your diagnostic files weren't that useful (though I must admit mein Deutsch ist a bit crap), but I guess you probably have a system something like a Dell or a Gateway which originally came with some cacky on-board sound chip. If you have a seperate soundcard, there's a good chance that a reinstalled OS will not have been able to sort out conflicts between the two. Installing the proper driver should sort it, otherwise you need to go into Control Panel-System-Device Manager and try to troubleshoot the conflicts maually.

Driverguide.com have just about every driver known to man in their database, all for free download. I did a little snooping, and found this for you, which should work.

On the password screen, enter your Username as 'drivers' and your Password as 'all', hit 'login', then the 'click here to continue' link. The file should load up for download then. If not, just search for 'CS 4235' and the database will cough up the goods.
