OK
I have seen a ton of Green Lantern back issues in the quarter bin. The cool part is that none are really the Parallax/Kyle issues. What ones should I choose? I also saw a ton of JLA by Giffen and Matessis starting from the beginning. What are your recommendations? I really don't read much Green Lantern and I am looking for a cool cheap read.

Go the Giffen/DeMatteises. 1 thru 25 are pretty good. 1 thru 12 are the best.

Second the Geffin/DeMattias run.

I really enjoyed Emerald Dawn (1 & 2) for Green Lantern stuff.

wHAT IS THE BASIS OF Emerald Dawn? What are some of the good John Stewart stories?

Emerald Dawn is basically a year one story, The first one shows how Hal Jordan gets the ring and what happens to him as a person as a result of it (it also makes his character make more sense for what happens later with regards to his reaction to the destruction of Coast City etc in death of superman) the second Dawn shows him being trained by Sinestro, and the fall of that character and his transformation into the Corps biggest threat.

Not sure on the John Stewart stuff, as I don't recall the Green Lantern Corps too well, only picking up the odd issue when young, and Moasaic is just odd.

Also the recent New Frontiers was very good. It's treated as an Elseworld story, but is both JLA and very Green Lantern centric. Get the trade though, as the individual issues are quite pricey.

Bastards couldn't release the whole thing together, though. No we have to pay for two trades. Grrrr.

You gotta buy Green Lantern Mosaic. Very interesting take on the whole superhero thing. Gerard Jones is a really good comic writer with interesting spins on things.

If you can handle reading old comics, try the DC Archives volumes (the Hal Jordan era, not the Golden Age/Alan Scott stuff). I'm not really a fan of much that's been done with the character in the modern era; aside from Kyle's appearances in Morrison's JLA, GL's mainly been written by medium-talent placeholders. I'll give GL:Mosaic a light recommendation for its sheer eccentricity, but other than that I'd skip the modern-era stuff unless you're just looking to catch up on continuity.
