Wow, this issue was so fucking unclear in pacing and plot... Milligan really let me down, to the point that he's reminding me of Austen. Maybe the primary X-Men titles are just cursed to be 2 out of 3 shiite from this point forward, b/c good as Milligan USUALLY is (loved hsi X-Force, tho I never continued with X-Statics) this was some shit.

Unfortunately, Milligan has form for this sort of thing - it's like there are two Pete Milligans - one good and one not so good. When he is good, he is very very good, but when he is bad he is terrible.

I'll bet he's got no love for the characters, unlike Mozzer, and that really shows in his writing. It's gotta be a money job, but still...

part two is out in a week or two - the preview pages up at Popcultureshock make it look not much better than the first part.

Yeah I thought that too, at least it gives some underlying meaning to the odd reactions of the x-men. I'm also glad that Milligan didn't resort too much to internal monologue which is sometimes a plus.

The Falcon

Did anyone bother with the next one? I'd understand if not, but it was a fair bit better. Still some stilted bits, but I don't think Larroca's really got the vibe yet, or if he will.

Bad inks. Computer?

The villain is really pretty good, and it's all quite bleak.

I liked this one a lot more - will persevere and see what happens. He is stuck with some really shitty characters, mind...

Finally read it.

it seems to be picking up.

amuzing comentary on mutant life on the west coast. He does love the hollywood lifestyle doesn't he?

Curious about the presence of Emma Frost in this series, granted she's the premiere telepath at the mansion these days, but it just strikes me as odd that she'd have the time to fly down to Antartica and back with out the rest of the astonishing team.

I feel like I'm going to wait til his first arc is over and hopefully Milligan gets his sea legs with this book...

Damn, this book is terrible. I had such high hopes for Milligan's run, but so far the dialogue is ubercliche and the plot has these moments, I wouldn't call them plot holes, but maybe just bad ideas stretched too far. Example... Bringing the giant slug back to the mansion. Or Wolverine siding with emma against hacking it to pieces. And alot of this wouldn't be as noticeable if the art wasn't so bad. I've said this many times, but Larocca isn't suited well for this book. It's often very vague, without guiding the story, leaving us to discern the action from the dialogue. Plus, it's way too manga for the X-team. I wish I could have a crack at it. I can draw circles round this Larocca guy.... And did he design those terrible costumes? Anyone else think Polaris looks like Morrigan from Darkstalkers?

Wait.... "Terrible" is a strong word. I was exaggerating. It's not terrible, just very weak in certain areas.

solicits for next story arc:

X-MEN #171 & #172
Written by PETER MILLIGAN
Pencils and Cover by SALVADOR LARROCA
"BIZARRE LOVE TRIANGLE" Parts 1 & 2 (of 4).
A new student has arrived at the Xavier Institute. She's sexy, sassy, and has the hots for Gambit! Will Gambit be seduced by this little Lolita, or will Rogue do the unthinkable to keep her man?!
32 PGS. (EACH)
/T+ Suggested for Teens and Up …$2.50 (EACH)

There is a pic of one of the covers up on Marvel's solicits...just all the main players listed above and a girl who is presumably the new character.

Wish I could be psyched about Milligan's run, but it's not happening yet...

The action seems punchy and a little choppy, but he seems to be setting up the soap opera of the characters - the whole thing with Polaris and Bobby and Alex, and Gambit and Rogue especially. But the story is odd, it's as though someone has ripped bits out of it that didn't make sense to them. I'm giving a bit longer though, just because it's Mr Milligan.

The Falcon
13:02 / 19.03.05
Well, if the next arc's named after a New Order song (one I've always thought esp. apropos to the muties,) it must be good.

He is stuck with some really shitty characters

He is indeed. Presumably, he only agreed to take on this bunch on the basis that he could kill off at least a couple of them - I dare say Rogue's off the hit list thanks to the movie, but Gambit's got to be on borrowed time now, surely ?

If he hasn't had his throat cut by an alien or something by Christmas, I... don't know what I'll do.

Gambit is rumored to be in the 3rd X-Men movie. I don't think he'll be dying anytime soon, sadly. (Or should I say "dying" since death is never permanent at all in the X-Men or comics in general.)
