MERRY WHATEVER.....................tomorrow!

whilst I hate the term Happy Holidays, most of us will be able to relax over the next couple of days and at least avoid work duties (for those whose employment requires they work over this period, I am sorry)

Anyway, have a nice one folks and thanks for all your invaluable advice over the last 12 months

Joe

(p.s. what do you think the Santa egregore does? is he in charge of making us all drink too much and kiss strangers and people we do not like? or is he the insidious trojan horse of consumerism?)

And a very merry whatever to you, Joe!

I don't have a problem with Santa, but I do have a problem with the glut of materialism and attachment to things that seems to accompany the guy.

Originally, the story was that St Nicholas threw three gold coins though a window on three different nights. The coins fell into the stockings of three girls, who had hung their stockings near the fireplace to dry. The coins allowed them to avoid having to be sold into prostitution, since they equaled the amount of a dowry had they landed husbands.

Over centuries, it evolved into goodies in stockings hung on chimneys, then gifts under the tree, but I'm not precisely sure how it turned into what it has become. Maybe someone else can pick up the tale.

In the meantime, here's to drinking just enough and kissing people we like!

Merry Christmas Joe, and here's to the both of us (and whoever else who's trying to suss Magick) truly finding our paths in 2005.

p.s. what do you think the Santa egregore does? is he in charge of making us all drink too much and kiss strangers and people we do not like? or is he the insidious trojan horse of consumerism?)

I'm not really sure, but seeing as he makes millions of children happy each Christmas day, I don't think he's all that bad.

There's a vibe in the air around Christmas time. I've felt it less this year than last, perhaps because of the current state of world affairs. But its there. People are charged for...something. There is a goodwill that exists that people channel through the lense of Christmas more so than through any other day of the year.

That being said...its the most consumer driven holiday of the year. Businesses make a killing off it.

But for me, Christmas has always been a time to spend with family. I am not Christian, so it doesn't really hold the same meaning for me as it does for others. Christmas seems to me almost like Thanksgiving, but with presents. Families and friends get together and try to have a good time.

Incidentally, I made my blood sacrafice to Winter today. My own blood, the lucky deific git. The ice cut me somethin bad, almost took a good chunk out of one of my fingers. At least I didn't find the magic bean in my soup...

To those that practice Christmas in one form or another, Happy Christmas, and a joyous New Year. And now I go to bed.

...and I just had a whole new revelation about the Sugar Plum Fairy...and I am thus disturbed...

Y'know that was the first time I had heard that about old St Nick.....again I learn something new

thanks for the kind words

been an okay day and much too much food has been gorged by me but strangely for me, little in the way of alcohol

I hope the new year brings you all health and happiness and that the world becomes a brighter and better place for all

(there might be something in this Christmas goodwill thing as even without much drink, I am full of the goodwill and sentiment and want everybody to be happy......hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm)

Wishing everyone a wonderful holiday season and excellent New Year's. It seems weird to say it about an online forum, but Barbelith has become a special "place" to me. It's brought me a lot of knowledge and fun through the past 4 years or however long I've been coming here. Peace to all, hope your wishes are all fulfilled this holiday season and New Year.
