BEST OF 2004

I was mulling over the Readers' Poll in the Pink Paper in a bar last night. You know the kind of thing: Best Boy Band, Best Kylie Single etc. I thought perhaps we might borrow that format and suggest some "Bests Of".

Best thread
The Big Brother 5 thread, which grew and grew despite all Quatermass' efforts. Such exuberance, such Nadia worship, such Jason vitriol, such summer fun.

Best book
Colm Toibin's The Master. If I knew Henry James better, I would probably have loved it even more. Should have won the Booker.

Best film
Shaun of the Dead
with honourable mentions for Napoleon Dynamite, Open Water, The Incredibles, Shrek II, and Capturing the Friedmans.

Best play
Festen at the Lyric, Shaftesbury Avenue. Listened to Stephen Moore voicing Marvin in Hitchhiker's Guide on my walkman earlier that day, then watched him as the despicable Danish patriarch in the evening.
Although I'm off to see Dame Ian MacKellen in panto at the Old Vic tonight and have high hopes of a legendary theatrical experience...

Best Barbemeet
ICA, US Election Nite. OK, the shit hit the fan with a vengeance just as we struggled drunkenly to our beds but for those few glorious hours leading thereunto, we had high hopes and happy hearts...

Any more nominations for any more categories?

Best Album should be given to Oh, My Girl - Jessie Sykes and the Sweet Hearafter.

Maybe there should be a "Best Thread" for each forum.

Any nominees?

Best new band has to be the Scissor Sisters. For me, anyway. Still haven't tired of their album, and am very jealous of certain someones getting to rock out to them live at hogamany!
