Any recommendations for good graphic design books that have come out over the last year. I need a design hit as an ex member of the industry but i'm not paying 6 to 7 quid for a magazine (i'd rather pay £15 for a book off Amazon).

So come on, whats best at the moment

books?

I prefer design theory periodicals. Like Britain's own Eye. I drop 20+ US dollars every 3 months and love it. Also good: ANY damn magazine NOT about design, or ephemeral culture.

There aren't a huge number of recent graphics books out there, as the above poster says, it's mostly about magazines. Design trends change pretty damn fast these days, and books can't really cope.

If you're after a steady influx of new images and sources, Creative Review is written for and by stuck up capitalist tosspots but has some interesting pictures in it.

A decently stocked art gallery with a books section in the gift shop should have something to interest you, though.

Other than that you can try Waterstones Bookshop (I assume you live in england), they have a pretty good art/design section.

But yeh, you'll have more luck with magazines.

I probably seemed harsh or snarky or whatever.

Maybe I could help more if you detailed your concerns? I graduated from the College For Creative Studies recently with a degree in graphic design, so I'm pretty fresh. Perhpas you should attack your problems more indivually... are you working on a specific project that demands a more ultra-current "trendy" look?
