Mantras

Anyone here ever try mantras? If so, what was your experience? I'm doing one to Ganesh, for (of course) the removal of some obstacles, in my life and my father's.......I'm on about day 13 or so at this point.

I'm not sure if you have to always say them in the same place; since I'm pretty busy, I just say them all throughout the day and night whenever I have some privacy. I'm hoping the fact that I'm not saying them all while at the same spot in my room won't diminish their effect. It's one of those 'try it and see' things.

I'm going to sound like a total geek, but I've had good luck with:

IMCOOLERTHANBRUCELEEIMCOOLERTHANBRUCELEEIMCOOLERTHANBRUCELEE
IMCOOLER...

Of course that was back in the time where I was working with the Invisible Krew as Godforms...

I have problems with tying myself in too closely with things that happen to me, things that others do, etc. I take things too personally. I picked up a mantra in my Buddhist philosophy class which helps a lot- "This is not me, this is not mine." It also helps a lot when switching fiction suits too, or trying to dissociate from one's environment.

I don't use it like a mantra, but "which side are you on?" is infused in just about every thought I have.

quote: "This is not me, this is not mine."

This is a meme classic.A dissociation from the self,as if the self were made of a collection of ideas only,in which case it would be perfect to use betweensuits, and when you want you're environmental awareness to become more holistic(part of a single sensation, rather than being made up of lots of unwanted stimulus).Dr Susan Blackmore talks about this in 'The Meme Machine',in one of the later chapters:'The Ultimate Memeplex'.She puts her ideas into practise in her daily life, one of them is creating a mental space like you mentioned, basing her technique on scientific principals. There are tons of ideas in her books, and I would recommend any meta programmers out there to check it out.

Actually I mostly get a result by using nonsense words, random soothing syllables, eg Shishshashshosh.

And a nice old-skool OMmmmmmmm feels surprizingly good.
