Why should I read Trigger?

The first issue of this came out this week, and I heard from a couple of people who liked it, but their judgement is a bit shaky. Is it worth getting?

I may flick through it in the store but the promo they were putting in the other comics a month or two back didn't look like it was anything new...

Mr Tricks

for some reason this series doesn't remotely interest me... I guess I'm sort of done with dark futures... the present is dark enough.

Watkiss' art is great but the book as a whole didn't grab me enough for me to give it more than a cursory skim.

the art is very pretty and atmospheric.

the story...could still be good. it has some good premises with roots in actual social commentary (critique of consumer america, the implications of the patriot act's expansion of governmental surveillance) which immediately gives it some points for effort. after a very interesting fantasy, the protoganist starts out with vague feelings of dissatisfaction and frustration with his job/marriage.

his interactions with his family seem pretty real.

naturally it becomes a thriller. the corporation (ethicorp) isn't evil because it's responsible for the homogenization of the culture or because it sells the illusion of freedom while undermining the foundations--it's evil because it kills people!

it could still be ok but i regret another seeming opportunity to have well-illustrated comic fiction addressing moral concerns outside of the action-adventure model.

I've heard that the first page just has the words 'If you've read/seen Arthur Miller's 'The Crucible' then this comic is not for you'. I cannot confirm this.

uh. no... That's not true.
But Trigger is a really good book. Very impressed by the first issue. It's got a Grendel feel to it, only it's a much more acurate description of our near future... I'll definitely be following this one.

So, anybody still reading it?

I got to the comic shop today and looked at it, and my reaction was something like "Broccoli? Ugh."
I bought and read the first 3 issues and did not care for any of the characters.

To me, the story reads like I´ve heard/read/seen it before, only much better (Blade Runner or any Dick SF, Brazil, 1984, etc.).

I'm reading this book, and loving it, it seems that it is ending at issue 8 however.

I was a bit put off by the art on my read of the first issue, but upon completion, it did seem that the style did reflect the story quite well.

Having read a ton of Philip K Dick books I could see where things were heading, but still very enjoyable. I love the little Ethicorp "censored" panels over some of the panels here and there.

Too bad it ends soon

That´s the problem for me. I have read most of PKD´s SF work, so "dark and gritty SF noir with twists" will always be compared to his work and many times lose.
