Okay, so I've just got my computer's memory problems sorted out which means I can now run 3dStudio again. Whether or not I'm any *good* at 3dStudio is another matter, but I can at least claim to be self-taught.

Anyway, here are some basic plans- not finished scenes, mind- for things I might make more out of, p[erhapsa movie for example. You don't need to get all technical, I mean I'm not expecting everyone to know about 3d graphics. Just tell us if you think it works as an image/concept, if you see what I mean.

This is a large robot with two lasers, one of which is firing. I know that's not very highbrow but I like it.

This, on the other hand, shows a big spaceship shooting a smaller one in space, using a laser. I'm quite proud of the "expoloding" effect on this one.

So, what do you think?

I thought you could do with a close up of the ship:

Look at all those little windows. They took ages, they did.

And here's another, different robot, with a little man to show scale:

The pics are awfully dark- it's hard to make out the detail that you've obviously put so much work into. That explosion effect is good though... did you create that in the program or is it "post-production?"

The first robot is pretty good, looks like something out of Doom or Quake, only cleaner. The shooting ship, looks good except for where the beam emerges from the ship, looks a bit like you've just stuck the beam on top of the picture of the ship, but that might just be an effect of the distance. The pictures look rather static too, that might the effect of no background though.

The explosion was donewithin the program, but it wasn't a case of just clicking "ad expliosion", its a pretty complicated setup.

The darkness thing- yeah, I know what you mean, that seems to happen when they get converted to Jpeg and made to be 500 wide.

As for backgrounds- time is of the essence, and when I have some I'll probably make the backgrounds.
