Conjuring

Perhaps someone here can clear this up for me.

I have heard that conjuring up a particular spirit often requires a very specific ritual, and that these spirits can get a bit picky about whether it's done right.

If this is the case, then how does this relate to conjuring up spirits for which there is no ritual, yet? Does it apply if I want to, say, speak to the spirit of Jean-Luc Picard (the character, not the actor)? Or some obscure historical figure?

Chaos Magicians will tell you to get high and hope for the best. OK, maybe not, but you get the idea.

In the case of the spirits of peoples or characters who have no real established ritual for summoning, make one up. If it works, huzzah. If not, try again.

Or just get high and hope for the best.

If you see Jean-Luc and I don't, no worries. I won't call you crazy.

I'll leave that to the men in white.

I’ve carefully crafted a Picard ritual for you, my friend. Hope it helps.

Picard is a mighty figure of wisdom, an insightful oracle. I would recommend seeking him for advice and perspective, using relevant dialogue from the Next Generation as a mantra. For example, if you were seeking counsel prior to an important decision, you could use the speech he made to the time traveller/confidence trickster (can’t remember the episode title). The mantra must be shouted repeatedly while the Next Gen theme tune plays at high volume. The request must then be assigned priority according to the level of counsel you require (I would suggest assigning a Warp Factor to the request). I’d recommend not asking too much stuff at Warp Nine priority, as it may have devastating effects to the environment. Finally, you must pull down your shirt front and utter the power words (either “Engage” or “Make it So" ). Wearing a uniform helps.

I’m working on Dixon Hill and Locutus incantations. Oh yeah, and a spell for summoning “Hawaiian Picard” from the episode where he had that holiday on Risa.

Personally, I think the greatest feat would be to summon Sisko, the Transformed Emissary of the Prophets. May be of much more use.

Hijack some quirky Bajoran-style rituals if you want to get in contact with Sisko. And now, for some reason, I think I've watched too much SPACE: The Imagination Station over the past month.

I wouldn't mind speaking with Mr. Morden of B5 fame, however. Perhaps even Mr. Bester, everyone's favorite teep.

Thank you, expressionless. I shall try this as soon as I can get ahold of a script and a soundtrack.

Does anybody know any websites that have some of Picard's speeches?

Remember these?

“A whim, a thought, and more is sought
Awake my mind, thy will be wrought.”

“Whispered secrets from a shattered age
I summon you: renew this sage.”

“The arrows turn, the swords repel
Let nothing pierce this mortal shell.”

“Oh mist filled peaks, dark, dank, unclear
Touch all before me with frost fingered fear.”

“Three suns align, pour forth their light
And fill the archer’s bow with might.”

and my personal favourite:

“By Nature’s hand, by craft, by art
What once was one now fly apart.”

Do you reckon there’s mileage in invoking the totem powers from Visionaries? The phrases are a bit short, and some just don’t sound very useful in your average one-Sun solar system.

Summoning Picard? I'd say shave your head and then wank off into a pot of tea. Earl gray. Hot.

No, comrade Matthaw, expressionless wasn't talking to Brenden directly. Not to my knowledge, at least.

What - no one remembers Visionaries?

Shame. It was great.

Oh, I do, but I won't rot the thread by discussing it...

Yes. That would be bad.

What about taking the mottos from the back of old Transformers toy boxes? You know, each one had their own little witticism or bon mot that Hasbro had to inflict upon us... how's about summoning Optimus Prime (the original Hardcore Legend, and more-Picard-than-Picard - he was an architect and philosopher before the war on Cybertron broker out, if memory serves)?
