Office Holiday Party Games

My boss volunteered me to co-ordinate games for the staff Christmas party. I didn't work here last Christmas, so I have no idea what they did, and the staff that was here has been less than helpful. Please, suggest things I can do with these people that don't involve a lot of drinking, stripping or revealing intimate details of their lives. I have eight hours to come up with something. Help?

What about something silly like musical chairs/parcels or ladders? If you pick kids games, hopefully everyone will know the rules and it won't be too awful. Then of course you've got the rather terrible 'passing a balloon without using your hands' one...

Well that rules out all the games I know. Anyone else?

There are tons of part-game sites on the web—ultimately it's going to boil down to what you think the guests will be comfortable with.

Among the games on this page, "Christmas Bingo" looks fairly amusing (about halfway down). All you'll need is some markers (wrapped peppermint candies would be good), a small prize, and photocopies of the filled-in 5x5 grid.

More ideas hither, thither, and yon (I like the "Santa Dress-up" on that one, and materials should be easy to come by).

A pub-style quiz mightn't be a bad idea, either...

And for something truly offbeat... What kind of food are you having? This is a fun game to play when you're having Chinese take-away.

I heart Jack Fear, as I'm to attend said Christmas party, and was quite frankly a little worried I'd be cajoled into stripping.

Thanks for the help. I think I'm sorted out now.

Cheap. Easy. Cruel.

If you are still looking for ideas, here's a game my GF put together for her office party. She looked up how to say Merry Christmas in many different languages and wrote seven or eight of them on a large piece of poster board with a number beside each. Everyone at the party got a piece of paper with numbers and blanks at the top, and a list of languages at the bottom. Each person had to match the languages to the holiday wishes as best they could. She threw in a few extra languages for good measure. The person who got the most right won a small prize.

Simple scavenger hunt helps. Split guests into 2 teams with a roughly equal gender balance. Choose a list of 10 things (5 male-ish, 5 female-ish) that are quite easy to get (breath mints; a belt; one each of each coin of legal tender in your country; mascara; bear trap; mace; assault rifle) and award points for the first team to deliver said items. People love it. You may need security. It's a popular game.
