To me this seems highlight the failings of the current government with respect to the issue of social inclusion, or more specifically, the lack of it.
The governemnt still maintains that they have cut the number of pupils expelled since 1997 but at the same time they are failing to provide an education for quite a large number of children.

Back in the day, Tony said that he would be "tough on crime, tough on the causes of crime" but to me it feels as if he has forgotten that social exclusion is a large factor in "causes of crime", and the policy of fining or jailing the parents of persistant truants just criminalises a larger proportion of the population.

The government has said it will be placing £7mil into a fund for a project called Skill Force, which uses former military personnel to teach and mentor disaffected pupils.

£7m falls a bit short when it comes to addressing the social imbalance we have in the UK. Especially, when you consider that the disparity between the top earners and the lowest paid is greater under Labour then it was 14 years ago (Socialist Party (unfortuneatly no link to the actual white papers)).

Bah... I'm gonna stop ranting, there's no point and I appear to have lost mine.
