I love Whitney. She is a lady & she is nice. I heard she was a lesbian but i don'tbeliv it as she was marry 2 Bobby Brown. He was horrid 2 her an did ponch her in the face alot sometime. She has a special little lady who says "sing it mommy".

She makes me happy like in Robin Hood with Kevin Costner.

Whitney Houston's output to date: not usually very good, but 'I Want To Dance With Somebody' = better than, say, anything ever released on Warp records.

Yes, definitely. That's definitely true.
Definitely.

I tried to sing "so emotional" in karaoke the other week. Bloody hard.

"My love is your love" is my fave.

Is it just me, or did Whitney suddenly become a lot more interesting when she turned into a crack whore? Flame away.

OK, cheap shot, apologies. I just had a hard time transposing the God-fearing, pure and holy Whitney of old into the Cussing, Crack and Dope uber-bitch Whitney of the present. It's like Cliff Richard metamorphosising into Marilyn Manson.

She did have an amazing voice, but I hold her fully responsible for all the "woo-ooo-ooo" wannabes seen on the likes of Pop Idol and X Factor. I guess that's some measure of her influence...

Sadly I think her voice has been ruined by too much abuse, if recent appearances are anything to go by, so I don't think she'll come back.

She had a technically amazing voice. Emotionally = big fat zero.

I have a friend who has a theory -- Houston was Elvis Presley's love child.

His reasoning:

1. Something familiar in her face.
2. Mother was a backup singer for Elvis at about the right time period.
2a. Elvis was known for having a way with the ladies.

Flyboy: fuck off, you're missing out "Bushwhacked". Which I guess was an MP3 on the warp website, but still.

Never the less, yes, that song is better than all of Ninja Tune and all of Warp, except "Bushwhacked".

Apart from Blech, how dare you mention Warp and Ninjatune in the same sentence?!? The label practically invented techno as we know it today - their roster of artists includes everyone from Jamie Lidell, to Andy Weatherall, to !!!, to Aphex, to Vincent Gallo, to the (now) godawful MORisms of Nightmares on Wax.

Ninjatune? Ninjatune released some triphop with a bit of Squarepusher chucked in for good measure.

I feel humorless today, but, still, 'I wanna dance w/ somebody' is the best record ever. Classic. Classic pop. Cuhlaaaahsic. I wish everything was always pop forever and everything was parties.

Oh you know electronic music...s'all the same innit? not like Fun! Pop!
Whitney only became slightly, microscopically interesting when her and Bobby turned into total fuck-ups, and only then because it contrasted nicely with the annodyne, saccharine bullshit she'd been peddling for fucking aeons.

Warp and Ninja Tune seem to have a lot of crossover in their fanbases. And it's fun to jab at 'em.

Oh no, however will I live without rigorous internal consistency? It won't be easy, now, but I'll manage somehow...

Just make sure you pick everyone else up for it and you'll be fine.

My favourite bit in 'I Wanna Dance With Somebody' is in the breakdown near the end where you can clearly hear the guy with the really deep voice going, "DANCE". It sounds like Marcellus Wallace preparing to get medieval. Fantastic...

See, when I first read this I thought there was a remix of 'I Want To Dance With Somebody' on Warp records. Now that I would like to see.

There was a bootleg knocking around called 'Girls On Top' with the vocal of 'I Wanna Dance With Somebody' over the top of 'Numbers' by Kraftwerk.

She just hit a bus. I don't think she'll be making a comeback for a while.
