Who's seen this movie?
Its getting very mixed reviews but went down very well at sundance- nearly went on saturday, may try and make it for Orange Wednesday this week. I'm suprised nobodys written about it yet cos it seemed quite Barbelithtastic.

I read a review that described it as the coen brothers doing revenge of the nerds- which sounds great in my book. Its seems to be getting a lot of press and the ads seem to be in the right places- whats the verdict- in one interview i read in Metro it said they were looking at making a sequel already- and all for a cool $500,000.

Suedey! SHOT FOR MEAT!

It's not the greatest film, but I have a lot of fondness for it (the locations/way of life/ reminding me of youthful folly/crappy drawings) and it's quotability can't be denied.

"But my lips hurt real bad!"

I'm sure I used to run like that, too.

Now that it's on DVD it's like everybody I bump into in the world is quoting this movie. Not that that's a bad thing -- I love the movie myself. I just get tired of being called a "flippin' idiot" all the time.

Also, I caught you a delicious bass.

I like this film, which is why it's hard for me not to spam up this thread.

I finally saw this after months of hearing people quote it, and being annoyed by people quoting it. So, I'll admit I went in with a pre-existing negative bias towards the movie, but I don't think that's the only reason that I really didn't like the movie.

I feel like the movie wasn't at all celebrating its main characters, it was more basically presenting them to you to laugh at. They're not making jokes, they are the joke, and I found it pretty tiresome after a while, to watch a movie that seemed to exist just so you could revel in how dumb these people are, and how superior you are in comparison.

I find it odd that so many people really embraced the movie, and I'm not sure what that says about society as a whole. I guess this is just a variation on the Adam Sandler type character who exists to get in bad situations that you can laugh at, with a healthy dose of Urkel thrown in. A lot of that feeling comes from the production design and costumes, which were clearly designed to be the ugliest things possible, and they succeeded. It's a movie that I found very off putting looking at. And then there's the whole cliched/racist ending for Kip.

What I did like was the ambiguity of the ending. Maybe this is a movie you have to "discover," but I don't think it's something I would have liked regardless of when I came across it.

Patrick: Did you watch through to the wedding scene after the credits? It's hysterical for Kip's horrendous love song to LaFawduh, and her brother (?) in the front row absolutely writhing in pain.

I didn't adore this film like my sister did, but I thought it was funny enough. What's most amusing to me is that everyone looks like they've just crapped their pants and are trying to figure out if anyone else has noticed.

Don't know whether people noticed, but the girl who played Summer, the annoying blonde cheerleader, is Hayley Duff, Hilary's slightly less photogenic sister. That item has no other value besides that. Also, Deborah (? Napoleon's semi-love interest) is the same little girl from Waterworld. That also has pretty much zero worth other than a cinematic curiosity.

Peathe, yo.
