So have ya seen it? Yes? Well then discuss.

No? Well what are you doing here? Do you want this thing spoiling for yourself?

I have to say that it's the best Manga I've seen so far, it was so amazing. Alucard's attacks........well they have to be seen to be believed, literally. And I thought Neo and Willow could kick ass........ha. This is something else. The attacking, Alucard's Cromwell moves, they are just so creative. The way this thing is put together aswell, it's very sharp stuff, and I wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of Integra either. She is one mean woman.

Especially after what probably ended up happening at the end.

Anyone reading this who hasn't seen it and want's to in the future: I suggest you STOP READING RIGHT NOW.....

Do you know what I saw on the net after I'd seen them all? I was very much kicking myself for being so dumb :

Alucard - Dracula

I never even noticed it was that spelt backwards! (The shame of it.)

Well then what did you think of it?

Not to be a stickler, but Manga is actually the term used to categorize books, whereas film is Anime. Just so you know!

And I found the series to be a little juvenial, too plain for me. It wasn't overly inspired in my opinion. Now, the second Vampire Hunter D film, on the other hand...

Thanks Mike-O, I did know that the films are Anime but I suppose I get confused when some of the films are Anime, but a company sticks the 'Manga' label on them. Cheers though, I'll change the title.

As for Vampire Hunter D, I have the first one but I didn't know they'd made a second. I'll keep a look out for it.

And I found the series to be a little juvenial, too plain for me.

Is that a way of saying that the story wasn't deep enough for you? I suppose I could understand that. I'd of personally liked more of Alucard, but I still loved it. I need to get the graphic novels next because apparently after book 3 the whole story is completely different.

I think my fave bit of the whole thing is when the two Vamps/freaks attack the Hellsing headquarters and Alucard wastes one of them with his Crowmell approval attacks, I really loved that. You know, the bit where he turns into the Dog with all the eyes. I loved that bit.

I stuck Hellsing out to the end and must say, it was very, very disappointing. There's some nice animation going on at points (Alucard/Arkard's mutation into the manyheaded dog, for a start), but the story never takes off, there's a lot of TERRIBLE animation at points, and it all just takes a turn for the weak.

The ending is terribly crummy. For something with so much promise, it all just went tremendously hammy and downhill and I can't believe I stuck it out that long.

This is not a good anime in any sense of the word; it has a couple of good early episodes but all falls apart into repetitive nonsense. Seriously.

I've only seen one episode, but I've read the manga, and (assuming the two series are the same) I'm going to have to agree with the above posts. The series looks cool but is actually quite brainless. Like Trigun, the best thing it had going for it was the soundtrack.

Watch any of the top three of sttab's suggestions instead (I can't say too much for the others). Stuff by Ghibli is generally good, but avoid the Disney release of Nausicaa. Also, the Ghost in the Shell tv series is pretty good. Or, you know, there's always Akira...

aah, what the hell. Watch whatever you want. If you liked it, that's all that matters.

I loved the Ninja scroll tv, and that's no brainier than this.

Is anyone else following the Hellsing Ultimate OVAs?

I rather like them. Nothing groundbreaking or hugely origional in the characters or plot, but I simply love watching Alucard kick ass. And the extreme gore. I think my favourite was in the third one when Alucard bit someone's neck and the guy's head went bouncing on the floor. Anne Rice's LeStat has nothing on this guy.

I think the OVA has done a better job of it than the series. Better fight scenes, better animation, and an increased overall coolness factor. I can't decide if I'm happy about the Nazis or not. I mean, they were in the manga, but... Nazis? Oh well. As long as Alucard gets to do his thing, I guess I'm happy.

Is it as wild as the comic? Because that was the only real drawback, I felt, to the TV series, was how sedate it was compared to the very fast-moving and insane original material.

And, really, anyone complaining that 'Hellsing' stuff lacks depth is clearly looking at the wrong animal. It's an excuse for religious groups to cut each other to ribbons and be fed to vampires. That's like complaining 'Dracula has Risen from the Grave', 'Evil Dead 2' or Van Damme movies lack depth.

What you say is very true, but Hellsing, after watching, left me without a sense of completion that other anime has, somehow. It's difficult to express, but Hellsing seems to manage to try to put in a lot of detail and story arcs into a short season without using any compression, and it could be seen as noble, but instead it seemed to come out as rushed.

The animation and themes were well done - especially, in some ways, the religious side; the Papists were downright creepy - and it has it's redeeming features, but apart from that...

I also assumed that 'Alucard' was, in part, a reference to some of the Hammer Horror canon, or at least Dracula A.D 1972 - but I'm sure it's more wide-reaching than that.

It seems to have first appeared in the movie Son of Dracula. It's relatively common in vampire fiction nowadays.

Nocturne

I find the OVA much more fast paced than the series. But I'm going by distant memories of the series. Personally, I think if you reasonably enjoyed the series, you should give the OVA a shot. I think it's better (so far).

I was also left feeling unfulfilled, although the one episode where Alucard takes on the speedy "synthetic" vampire and shows the extent of his power (talkin' shit while doing it) was a little sastifying. Beyond that, I was not impressed.

I mean, vampires. C'mon. I'm all for variations on a theme, but I'm pretty sick of this vein (rimshot) of sci-fi.
