Oobi is a message center for conveying your written thoughts to other human beings. Oobi has no home, no owner, but is forever going somewhere, on his way, in transit, never dying. Oobi counts on the kindness of strangers to journey him towards his destination, but only the person to whom oobi is addressed may open him. When he is finally broken open, it is only to free oobi's spirit.
You may buy oobi, but you never "own" oobi. You buy oobi to make him free.
Oobi is love

I love Oobies. What an awesome idea. Unfortunately, Oobies are now extinct.

Peer-to-peer hippies!

That's pretty fab actually. I'm off to eBay now.

Isn't it? I would love to try this, although it has been tried on both east and west coasts in the U.S, and nothing. It seems it was mostly a slight problem of the first person who finds the oobi, keeps hir (completely unaware of the assigned gender/s of oobies).

I can faintly recall the advertisment for this Parker Brothers toy. Although I would have to have been very young. Such a lovely idea it is rather disenchanting when one thinks of the dismal conclusion the test markets ended up in. It says so much about humanity. It reminds me of the Great Wandering Notebook Disappearance.

It also reminds me of a Native North American dude who gave me a small, oblong, nearly polished, reddish-brown rock, that he said was from the east coast. He told me it likes to travel so, I carried it around with me from coast to coast for about five years.

Oobi is making me all nostalgic. *sniffle*

Actually, it says one thing about life in general: that we'll take anything that isn't bolted down or protected. It's just a consequence of evolving from all-devouring amoeba and - more recently - a hunter/gatherer society.

When I was a kid I used to go over to my cousins to play with all his toys..he, being 4 years older had much better toys than I.. Ah pac-man hand held how I miss you! I remember in the bottom of his toy drawer he had an oobie. It was damaged and chewed by his doberman and so I merely thought it was a coin purse. Its nice to see a childhood misconception righted.
