Enochain Scrying Question

Eh quick question...

Trying to find the technical sequence for opening an Aethyr. For instance, if I wanted to open and scrye on, say, the 30th aethyr (TEX), using the G.'.D.'. methods, then which signs / banishings would I give and then which / what sequence of the 19 Calls would I give? Second half of that is more important, obviously. Anyone have any idea about this or where I could go for the info without having to buy any books?

Practical Angel Magic of Dr John Dee's Enochian Tables
Stephen Skinner, David Rankine

Book Description
From two previously unpublished 17th century manuscripts on Angel Magic, with instructions for their use as used by Wynn Westcott, Alan Bennett, Rev. Ayton, F L Gardiner and other members of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn
The authors have discovered what happened to John Dee's most important manuscript, his book of personal angeilic invocations which he kept in Latin, and how it was preserved and developed by 17th century magicians into a full working magical system. How only a small part of this material reached the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn in the 1880's. Even this was then suppressed by the chiefs of the Order, and it did not appear in Israel Regardie's monumental work on the Order rituals.

They have also traced how the classical techniques of invocation and evocation drawn from late mediaeval grimoires, were passed through John Dee's magic, via Elias Ashmole, to the aristocratic angel magicians of the 17th century, including some of the most powerful and influential figures in England.

In the 20th century many fanciful constructions were added to GD Enochian by writers such as Aleister Crowley, who were however all unaware of the completely developed system that already existed, and which is here published in full for the first time.

Synopsis
Stephen Skinner has been interested in magic for as long as he can remember. He wrote, with Francis King, the classic Techniques of High Magic in 1976. He followed that with Oracle of Geomancy and Terrestrial Astrology which has become the standard work on Western divinatory geomancy. Books on Nostradamus and Millennium Prophecies followed in highly illustrated editions. Stephen is also the author of eight books on feng shui, including the first one written in English in the 20th century. In the 1970s he was responsible for stimulating interest in John Dee and Enochian magic by publishing the first reprint of Casaubon's True and Faithful Relation of What Passed for Many Yeers between Dr John Dee and some Spirits...and Dr Donald Laycock's key reference book on the angelic language The Complete Enochian Dictionary. With David Rankine, he discovered what happened to Dee's most important manuscript, his personal book of angelic invocations which he kept in Latin, and how it was preserved and developed in the 17th century into a full working Enochian system. Only ten percent of this material reached the unpublished archives of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, and even this was then suppressed by the chiefs of the Order, so it did not appear in Israel Regardie's monumental work on the Order rituals and documents. They have also traced the routes down which were passed the classic techniques of invocation and evocation from late mediaeval grimoires, through Dee's magic, via Ashmole, and the aristocratic angel magicians of the 17th century, and Frederick Hockley to the senior magicians of the Golden Dawn.

i know you said no expensive books but this book seems so useful, so useful.

I can help you out here. Firstly, in terms of books, you should find everything you'd need or desire at the occult forums ceremonial magic library - http://www.occultforums.com/showthread.php?t=5966

That aside, I recommend either of "Enochian World of Aleister Crowley" or "Tarot of Ceremonial Magick" by Lon Milo DuQuette for very easy to get into instructions. Clear, well written, easy.

Finally, to avoid any of that hassle, the answer to your question.

Set up temple as to your liking. Elemental tablets on the altars, in the quarters, or not present - take your pick.

Banish.

Recite the 19th Call only. Where it says **LIL** insert the name of the Aethyr you wish to skry. I advise starting at TEX and working your way through.

Skry.

Banish when done.

Yep. It's that simple. Invoking angels from the tablets requires (somewhat) complicated Temple openings and routines, but skrying the aethers is straightforward.

On pronunciation - don't sweat it too much. Anywhere you get too many consonants without a vowel, drop a vowel in so you can pronounce it. If you want to be "GD compliant" pronounce "Z" as "Zod" - so "zaz" would become "zodazod", ferexample. It seems that the cut and paste I've done of the 19th call below (from Crowleys Vision and the Voice) has already done that. If you want to match the way Dee did it, don't bother with the Zod *unless* you need it to make the word pronouncable.

But really, don't sweat the pronounciation.

Finally, each Aethyr has three guardians (except TEX, which has four) - you'll want to know the names of these guys, as you can hunt them down while you're skrying and ask them to show you around. Vibration of their names should cause them to appear. Alternatively, use the names to test any entities that appear. Also feel free to flash a pentagram at 'em if they get cocky.

So, you want to start with TEX (the innermost Aethyr) - the governers names are TAONGLA, GEMNIMB, ADVORPT, and DOZINAL.

That should be everything you need to get started! Run off and do it, then let us know how it went - in fact, it's so easy *everyone* should do it. Tomorrow morning, I'll also skry TEX, and I'll write up a report of my visions here - I'd love to see anyone elses results.

The last thing you need - the nineteenth call. Remember to substitute "TEX" (or appropriate Aethyr) for **LIL**

Oh, and to add a note of warning - according to some, Enochian makes you go mad. Buyer beware, and all that. Use at own risk, please consult a doctor if sanity persists.

Great, thanks everyone. Figured this out shortly before it was posted - surprised it's that simple. My Gems From the Equinox also states that the word IDIOGO can be substituted in the 19th call but not sure what the relevance of this is. Also Rowe states that the 1st and 2nd calls can be used preceding any other calls for a more "spiritual" or "material" manifestation respectively, not sure if this applies to opening and aethyr.

I'm going to skry TEX tonight. Might indeed be an interesting Barbelith experiment along the lines of the tarot and the elder futhark libraries. I've been in rooms of people opening the same aethyr where multiple people have strikingly similar results and imagery.

As far as I know, no-one ever worked out what the deal was with the IDIOGO substitution - Crowley says you can switch it, but there doesn't seem to be anything rational to switch it with.

Likewise, I've been in a room full of people skrying an aethyr. About 50 odd, at one of Lon's enochian workshops (highly recommended, btw) - exactly the same experience, remarkable similarity between people's visions, with lots of major themes that echoed very closly the skrying I'd done.

Okay, just got done skrying TEX. Here's a brief rundown on how it went.

Banished, sat in asana, read the 19th Call, vibrated the names of the governers. Closed eyes.

Saw an equal armed cross for a moment, before being on the edge of a road, with traffic passing. Looked around for a little - last time I was here I jumped the barrier and went cross country. This time, TAONGLA, a friendly young blonde chap, showed up and offered me a lift - I vibrated his name to test, he smiled, we drove for a bit. While driving I asked him about the nature of Governers - what did they Govern? I didn't really get a straight answer, but he did show me his "Domain" a city of Emerald skyscrapers. He then showed me a steer drinking from a river.

He seemed done, so I called for GEMNIMB, all dark hair and flashing eyes. She took me in a boat along a river made of gemstones, and explained there was no water in her domain - only matter masquerading as liquid. A great column raised from the water, soaring upward and glimmering with facets. I pecked her on the cheek, thanked her, and called for ADVORPT.

ADVORPT came over the hill, an old man using a cane to walk, grumbling all the way. "Don't hurry me, ya young whippersnapper!"

I asked him to show me his domain, and he said "You're standing on it." The earth opened up and I plunged into an oubliette with him cackling from above. I was calm, and he shortly joined me, showing me a cavern with a river rushing through it. He let me know "We've got water here, under the earth."

A great ruby (five feet or so) stood in the corner - I walked over, and the surface rippled. I saw an eagle flying, and then looked closely into its eyes where I saw an army, roman in dress, marching across a plain. I called for DOZINOL and the captain left the troops and came over. "Aren't you busy?" I asked - he told me it could wait. It always did. I asked him to show me his domain, and he whirled me into the air, showing me the lands below - I asked whether these were his lands and he corrected me - the air itself was his domain. We had a brief discussion regarding the next aethyr - he told me I had all I needed, and I left.

Opened my eyes, banished, and done. And there you go.

OK, did mine twice so took me a little longer.

Open TEX with the 19th call and vibration of the Governors. I am in a desert; a sun looms overhead - carrion crows pour out from behind it in the thousands, to scour the desert below of anything edible. "We enjoy the flesh of the earth." I climb into a lush green tree - inside is a lemur, bush baby creature (ADVORPT) who knocks me from the treee. I fly into the air and meet DOZENAL, a large blue-purplish energy pattern. I ask for astral travel secrets and information is said will be given at a later time.

The two other times I have scryed on this aethyr, the repeating motifs of not being safe (from some kind of attack from above), taking shelter in a garden-of-eden or sephirotic-like tree, flying and birds have been repeated in various patterns and motifs.

Today I read this from Ben Rowe, which amusingly enough repeats some of the same material:

I never "got it" either until I heard Duquette's take on it. Doing a run through of all 30 aethyrs (working on this now) provides a kind of self progress check through self-generated eidetic imagery. The idea is to scry one aethyr per night; at some point they will become dense and impenetrable. This is meant to be a mark in the doorjamb as to "where you at" in your evolution through Dis Crazy Game; and the last aethyr you are able to glean information from should have the imagery, themes and tools needed to figure out what you need to work out to make forward progress.

That's the theory at least. Trying it out now, will have more informed thoughts in about a month.

I've not dabbled much in Enochian but it's very intriguing and compelling. One, because it seems to be a very concrete system - and I mean that in the supraphysical sense of it seeming to have been existent on some plane for an extremely long time. Two, because most reports I've read/heard of people doing serious Enochian work almost always ends in complete mental meltdown of at least one of the participants. This again speaks to the potential depth and power (and betrays the suggestion that it's just meaningless dabbling).

Complete mental meltdown isn’t necessarily what I would call a worthwhile goal though…

You can get a complete mental, and physical, breakdown by putting a metal bucket on your head, repeatedly bash it with a cricket bat and walk down the middle of the M4.

If you want depth and power i'd suggest the Blackwall Tunnel for that extra initiatory experience.

As to Enochia i don't know much about it but i imagine all the fuss and bother that you have to get through is like any other religion or system. About builiding a relationship and making connections.

my main attraction is the angelic intelligences, i am intrested in communicating with them, within the context of christian mythology, i am especially intrested in the role of the watchers and there children the nephilim (blame carl mccoy). last night after adding to the thread entitled enochian, i had a dream about crystaline structures, tablets, used for communication.

i have also come acrosss another canon of enochian literature seperate and distinct from the book of enoch which heavily influenced william blake, a favourite cockney mystic of mine who influenced me alot as a teen, i have this hope that study in this area could bring me into closer contact with angelic beings, hopefully there may be common threads running through the enochian work of various centuries, its possible there might well be.

i can see differing approaches from 2 areas so far and have yet to throughly explore the third related to blake, i am also intrested in the golden dawns use of enochiana for angelic contact and raising the angelic within man.

i am very dubious of crowleys work as it goes because as a human being who left 4 men dying on a mountain side basically let his own child die, an seems to me to have been an aristocratic wanna be, he comes across as an irresponsible tard. thou i guess i will be looking at his enochian work some time. those who have followed on from it people like benjamin rowe and others mentioned in the thread seem to have done alot of good work in this area.

its the angelic contact that fascinates me, and also the guardian angel of man.

also i once suffered the delusion i was an angel before an nde in barnsley, everything talked to me for a week, the pavement, everything, telepathically, completely did my head in. so i think ill concentrate on external contact for now.

its a really fascinating area of study and experience.

' This again speaks to the potential depth and power (and betrays the suggestion that it's just meaningless dabbling).'

This idea of depth and power is interesting in occultism (and would proberly warrent another thread but i'm sure there are loads already). Is it full of depth and power because it is old? Only about 400 years old for Enochia which is not much compared to other stuff. Is it because it is complicated and confusing to outsiders or beginners? Is it powerfull because of the level of engagement and activity the practicioner has to engage with? Is something deep and powerful because it is a living tradition with millions of people working with it over hundreads of years? I can't imagine there has been a huge amount of enochian magicians over the last few centuries. Is it powerful because it's about tapping into and connecting with a more deep and powerful source?

I'm not dissing Enochian stuff, i'm just trying to get an idea of why so many people go on about Enochia being heavy, REAL, magic. Why is that? I kind of think, and bear in mind that i've no experience in Enochian magic, that it's because of all the strict instructions that it entails. That you spend a lot more time thinking and planning and preparing and that that is an intimate and imortant part of the process. Of course this is how it should be 'sometimes' with any magical working but maybe Enochia brings out the geek in us and has us bent over the desk, tongue between teeth, working out 'where to go next' and therefore engaging with something that previously a few rightly coloured candles and words would have done us.

Maybe it's just that the world is divided into Chess players and Twister players.

Me i'm more of a Twister man myself. Naked with a dead animal between my teeth!

complete mental melt down is to be avoided unless its timely, in my experience it can take years to put a yourself back together again(if you ever can).

negative psychotic experience isnt pretty, whatever form it may take, but there are positve psychotic states that are well worth experiencing and generally overtime the former can become the latter or not as the case may be.

That's kind of what I was suggesting in a round about way (again, admitting my own ignorance). To my mind, so many anecdotes of people losing their heads in prolonged Enochian contacts implies that it can be some heavy shit. Maybe it's been around a lot longer and Dee only stumbled across it...

In my case, there's a couple of reasons - mostly related to what BIAS was saying, but also because it's excellent skrying practice.

In fact, it's *amazing* skrying practice, which has been very successful for me.

Also, I consider this "exploration" in the same vein as pathworking - it's a goal in and of itself, not "results driven".

Effectively, I'm getting a feel for the terrain "out there" - or "in there" if you prefer.

As to why Enochian is powerful: who knows? My experiences with it though have been largely very strong skrying experiences, that are actually very very simple to perform (thanks to everybody who helped above).

The process I was describing involves, as mentioned above, simply doing a banishing and then reading aloud a paragraph of enochian text. From there, you're Jacked In. So it seems to me to be a kind of easy vision-on-demand system, from my cursory exploration, and very simple, although no doubt once you get really deeply into it (the tablets) it becomes much more complex, but really quite elegant - a tool, almost an Elizabethan computer or abacus, for ultra-minute and specific focusing of will.

"Dee and Kelley were not however the first persons to come up with an Enochian alphabet, a text on alchemy called the 'Voarchadumia' by Pantheus which was written in 1530 printed an eighteen character alphabet attributed to Enoch. As it turns out the British Museum copy of this manuscript has copious marginal notes by none other than Dr. John Dee. The notes date from 1559 and although the twenty-one character alphabet of Dee does not resemble Pantheus' alphabet it is conceivable that he at least got the Idea from that text. What the characters do resemble slightly are the letters of the Ethiopian alphabet....The current Book of Enoch was discovered in Greek and Ethiopian. Donald Laycock suggests that it is entirely possible that Dee had a copy of this manuscript and could not translate it so he invented his own language based loosely upon it."

"The patriarch Enoch....constructed an underground temple [at Moriah] consisting of nine vaults, one beneath the other, placing in the deepest vault a triangular tablet of gold [a 'white oriental porphyry stone' in one version] bearing upon it the absolute and ineffable name of Deity. According to some accounts, Enoch made two golden deltas. The larger he placed upon the white cubical altar in the lowest vault and the smaller [inscribed with strange words Enoch had gained from the angels] he gave into the keeping of his son, Methuselah, who did the actual construction work of the brick chambers according to the pattern revealed to his father by the Most High. In the form and arrangements of these vaults Enoch epitomized the nine spheres of the ancient Mysteries and the nine sacred strata of the earth through which the initiate must pass to reach the flaming Spirit dwelling in its central core."
- Manly P. Hall, Masonic, Hermetic, Quabbalistic & Rosicrucian Symbolical Philosophy

"The vaults were then sealed, and upon the spot Enoch had two indestructible columns constructed - one of marble, so that it might 'never burn', and the other of Laterus, or brick, so that it might 'not sink in water'.
"On the brick column were inscribed the 'seven sciences' of mankind, the so-called 'archives' of Masonry, while on the marble column he 'placed an inscription stating that a short distance away a priceless treasure would be found in a subterranean vault'. Enoch then retired to Mount Moriah, traditionally equated with the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, where he was 'translated' to heaven.
- Andrew Collins, From the Ashes of Angels - The Forbidden Legacy of a Fallen Race (1996) p. 13

"In time, King Solomon uncovered the hidden vaults while constructing his legendary temple and learned of their divine secrets. Memory of these two ancient pillars of Enoch was preserved by the Freemasons, who set up representations of them in their lodges. Known as the Antediluvian Pillars, or Enoch's Pillars, they were eventually replaced by representations of the two huge columns named 'Jachin' and 'Boaz', said to have stood on each side of the entrance porch to Solomon's Temple."
- Andrew Collins, From the Ashes of Angels - The Forbidden Legacy of a Fallen Race

Enoch's "name signified in the Hebrew, INITIATE or INITIATOR. The legend of the columns, of granite and brass or bronze, erected by him, is probably symbolical. That of bronze, which survived the flood, is supposed to symbolize the mysteries, of which Masonry is the legitimate successor from the earliest times the custodian and depository of the great philosophical and religious truths, unknown to the world at large, and handed down from age to age by an unbroken current of tradition, embodied in symbols, emblems, and allegories."
- General Albert Pike, Morals and Dogma
