ph#@r my jeans knowledge, people.
The hot new denim innovation is the "square top block". This is a total must have (mostly for men, but the women's one is okay too).
Basically, regular jeans curve inward a little bit from the hips to the waist. So if you want them to sit low, you have to buy them a size up from your actual size, as most of us have been doing for years. However, this means a certain amount of undesirable bagginess around the ass and at the sides, which can lead to the impression of childbearing hips.
The square top block avoids this by making the jeans drop in a straight line from waist to hip, and shortening the distance between crotch and waistband.
So you can wear them low, but have them fall straight down from the waistband, giving a clean, sharp look to the hip area. This will make you look HOTT.
I'm gradually moving away from baggy jeans to jeans which are as slim cut as they can be without actually being tight anywhere.
I find the best way to get a nice finish on your jeans is to buy the dark ones and then wear them hard for several months without washing them. This makes the denim go really nice and soft, and gives sharp relief on the wear. Then just wash them as often as you'd wash any pair of jeans and they fade really nicely.
Brand-wise, you really only want to be seen in Levi's, anything else is try-hard or shabby.
