While listening to some random politics audio from winmx i came across an organisation called the "British invisibles"
("how the U.S. gov masterminded the sep 11 attacks on W.T.C. and pentagon" is the file)
basically the British invisibles, who are described as "captains of british finance" had got hold of some minutes that proved big buisness's entanglement with the WTO and government trying to stop buisness regulation all over the world (its got to do with GATS)
They seem very powerful and rich and from what ive read of them (their website wasn't working properly) they seem to be a more ethical capitalists.
im still not sure to make of it, but im carrying out some ivestigation... heres some quotes and links
Article. The WTO's hidden adgenda
http://www.gregpalast.com/detail.cfm?artid=105&row=1
"LONDON -- Three confidential documents from inside the World Trade Organization Secretariat and a group of captains of London finance, who call themselves the "British Invisibles," reveal the extraordinary secret entanglement of industry with government in designing European and American proposals for radical pro-business changes in WTO rules."
A HM treasury article about the British Invisibles earnings
http://archive.treasury.gov.uk/pub/html/top/top7/com.html
"Invisibles are typically accorded a rather low status. There is a widespread perception that, in some sense, many services do not provide "proper jobs", that manufacturing is more important, and that income from investment is not worth as much as income earned from employment. It is also harder to visualise the stream of income from overseas assets or the export of professional skills than it is to visualise exports of cars or oil. These misleading perceptions are not helped by data on invisibles being less timely, frequent and certain than data on visible trade. Furthermore, the name "invisibles" itself suggests something incomprehensible and inconsequential."
from a page of links
"British Invisibles (BI) is a private sector organisation, predominantly funded by membership subscriptions, with 30 years experience of successfully promoting the UK-based financial services industry throughout the world."
Name is most likely a coincidence but i think they merit a little discusion if you know something on the subject on this slightly shady organisation who operate around the top of the financial food chain |
