1) Any Freemasons on Barbelith?
2) Any interesting opinions or theories on Freemasonry?
3) Any interesting books or web sites that anyone out there would recommend on the topic?

Steven Knight's The Brotherhood is quite good explaining a lot of it - he's fairly balanced and doesn't go for the 'evil murderers!' andle or the 'happy band of lovely people!' angle either.

I got mine second-hand and I hadn't seen it anywhere for quite a while - indeed Knight talked about it being banned from a major British bookshop chain - but I've recently seen new copies out again.

I'm not a Mason myself - it doesn't agree with my job,in my opinion. However, I'm sort of interested in them from a conspiratalogical (that a word?) viewpoint. Even so, most Masons are a bit dull when you get down to it.

Then again...

Since you asked:

Here is an theory for your contemplation. I will begin by sating that this is an extension (at best) of theories put forth by the following Authors:

Graham Hancock, Message of the Sphinx, Fingerprints of the Gods.
Knight and Lomas, The Hiram Key

I like the think of Freemasonry as the legacy left by an ancient Egyptian death cult, who honoured the idea expressed by the Goddess Ma'at (justice, uprightness of action, brotherhood of all men). These people may have believed that the immortal aspect of human beings reincarnates endlessly, on Earth. The immortal aspect (let's call it a Soul for short) originated elsewhere and came to Earth to "play" (my interpretation). Having arrived, we became so identified with our incarnations that we continue to “play”, though some may wish to return to our point of origin. There are ancient rituals that teach how the soul can return to the stars. Specifically Sirius and the stars of Orion's Belt.

The Kings of Egypt were privy to this ritual. If you examine the concepts of Freemasonry and adopt the perspective I have described then the whole “boy's club fraternity” becomes far more interesting.

As additional reading I would recommend the Thurman translation of the Tibetan Book of the Dead.

It's only a Game. Try to remember.

"There are ancient rituals that teach how the soul can return to the stars. Specifically Sirius and the stars of Orion's Belt."

Where might one find out about these rituals?

Also I am a 32nd degree Freemason and would like to hear your theories of how Freemasonry can be seen in a new light by taking the "souls from the stars come to Earth to play" approach.

Epop Bastart the Justified, I's totally awe-inspiring account of masonic initiation is the link I was looking for when I found the rest of these. Yay, search-fu.

1) I am a Freemason (highest chair in Blue Lodge - JW; 32° AASR & Past Thrice Potent Master [2003-2005] Long Island Aurora Grata Lodge of Perfection; Companion of the HRA & R&SM).

2) I believe that Frreemasonry is rooted in the ideals of the Rosicrucian movement - although there was never a Rosicrucian "order" - and promotes a system of "Natural Philosophy" whereby the Divine is understood by and through the Creation (hence the "Grand Architect" concept). While it shares themes and motifs with the ancient mysteries, it has no lineage historically tying it to them. Spiritually, however, it is a valid sytem of ritual enacting of the mysteries... for those seeking them. Few men approach Masonry with that in mind, though. But the ritual - which has remained intact for centuries - does have the power to convey real Light to those seeking it. The men who wrote it were geniuses who probably anticipated that very few Masons would be equipped to grasp what the ritual ofers.

3) "Morals and Dogma of the AASR" by Albert Pike; "Ahimon Rezon" by Daniel Sickels (not easily acquired, but if you want the real thing...); "The Origins of Freemasonry: Scotland's Century 1590-1710" by David Stephenson; "The Golden Builders" by Tobias Churton.

And, for an incomparable website, the Grand Lodge of British Columbia and the Yukon has an extraordinary amount of information on almost any question a person might ask. The refutations of Anti-Masonry are beyond compare.
