Duncan: Do you just not like currently very popular hip-hop Vlad?

Finally, someone who understands. My point was less about the "hiphop" demographic but simply that most hiphop that sells is of little credit to those whose interests they purport to represent. It's much of the stuff that flies under the radar that I feel offers real solutions and positive rhetoric, or at least doesn't reinforce the images that have kept the community in a cannibalistic cycle. And occasionally those who do subscribe to the cliches transcend the content with execution, but it's rarer.

I went to see Elysian Fields perform tonight, featuring Jennifer Charles of the Lovage album. After the show, I wanted to ask her if she was going to be working on the second album, she was talking with a guy, going on for a while. He seemed to be her friend and I didn't want to interrupt them, so I was just standing there, and they're talking about "Mike," and after a while I realize that the man she's talking to was Dan the Automator!

After a while, they finished talking and I talked to him for a bit. He's working to put together a second Lovage album, but there was "explosive chemistry" between Jennifer and Mike, so it's unclear whether she's going to do it. He's also got a new album coming out with Josh Haden, and some rap stuff later this year. And he's finally going to have a website up as well.

He was a really nice guy, and it was crazy to be there while he was working to put together the new Lovage album. As my previous posts in this thread will attest, I'm a huge fan of it, and to be there as he was working to put together the seond one was surreal.
