Oh Jesus. This issue contains possibly the most horrific moment of the series so far, which when you consider that this is basically a comic about violent killing, which has covered child abuse, rape and torture along the way, is saying something. The cruelest thing of all, for me, is the way Wylie gets his moment of I-am-a-Minuteman-dealing-out-righteous-death and the words he chooses to express how it feels to remember those skills - "I think I know how you feel when you blow that horn" - and then he turns round and OH SHIT. No more horn-blowing for Gabe. You just know it's not going to end well for the little fella as soon as he breaks and runs, but you don't know just HOW awful it's gonna get.
Horrible, horrible, cruel, tragic, fucked-up... and utterly compelling. So it turns out that the friend Wylie was talking about having killed in the first part of this story wasn't his 'friend' Warren, even though he did kill him, too. And now I'm seriously worried about Wylie surviving this storyline at all... |
