Don't know how many of you this will mean much to, but Roger Young the drummer from proto-punk, Reeperbahn straddling, howling, Genius, Freak monkeys The Monks died on Monday.

They're my favourite band, responsible for, I think, the greatest album of all time "Black Monk Time", and I am gutted.

Thoughts to his friends and family.

It's true.
Both of it, that is - he was called Roger Johnston, and he is dead.
Sad news indeed.

In the true Monks spirit of confusion I got his name wrong.
Grief clouded my eyes, you see.

Just listened to "Black Monk Time" at ludicrous volume while writing an article on The Monks for a Mate's blog.

It just doesn't get any better than that album.

And I never got to see them live.
