So you're the tiny green Prince of the Cosmos, right? One night, your Dad, the King of the Cosmos got absolutely smashed and destroyed all the stars in the universe. Now, you must roll a sticky ball (Katamari, literally "clump soul") around on the surface of the earth, collecting various objects, which will then be used to make new stars.

Sounds odd? It is. And it's also amazingly fun.

The scale in this game is brilliant, as you begin rolling up mahjong tiles, pushpins, and packets of gum, and eventually roll up entire islands and skyscrapers.

I could go on, as nearly every aspect of this game is excellent, but will simply ask...

Anyone played this game yet?

I've wanted this so much since it was released, but there's still no sign of it coming out on PAL, with Namco's official position being that this isn't a situation that's going to change. Which makes my official position "Namco UK are a bunch of wankers and, as soon as I can afford to, I'm importing the JPN- or US-published versions of their games instead of waiting for an official UK release".

There's some lovely desktop wallpaper available on the Japanese site.

Well, to play PS2 imports you need a modded/chipped console...

Actually, Katamari Damacy was the primary reason I got my PS2 chipped recently.

But once you get a chip, buying the game from overseas is a bit less worthwhile than just downloading it.

Another reason this game is great has to be the soundtrack. Right now, at least three of my friends hate me because they keep getting the theme song stuck in their heads.

I guess that depends on whether you want to support the industry or not.

Or wether you have wads of disposable income, as well.

However, Katamari Damacy is a very cheap game, retailing for $20.00 US. Unfortunately since a European release doesn't seem to be forthcoming, and my repeated attempts at ordering from shops that import games were failures, I took the path of least resistance.

The advantages of having the actual games are many, admittedly, from less scratchable discs to less chance of throwing off your PS2's laser.

Ah well.

I edited one if the katamaridamacy.jp wallpapers and have been running a KD theme (complete with startup music) for the last four weeks. The soundtrack has creeped into the deep corners of my brain, and won't get out. My friend and I have incorporated KD into cleaning up at lunch - one hums the music and the other picks up trash starting with the smallest items and growing from there.

If you have not played this game, play it, NOW.

Those large Mushrooms in the wallpaper make me a tad suspicious of where they got the inspiration for that game

Where did you get the theme from btw?
