Eminem's Mosh

Sorry if this has already been posted elsewhere.

Here's a link to a .mov file of Eminem's new anti-Bush video, Mosh, directed by Ian Inaba over at GNN. I'm not a huge Eminem fan, but I got shivers watching it, listening to the lyrics, and knowing how many people he'll affect. MTV says they'll play it. We'll see... It's currently listed on the MTV.com homepage as the #1 "Hot Video", though I'm not sure if this refers to the site or the station. Here's a link where you can vote for it to be played on TRL.

As a writer for Music For America noted, this may be our October Surprise.

Very impressive. I definitely agree with the message, and the animation was great. It's good to see Eminem putting his talent to something more than just insulting his mom.

Em has another great video for "White America" off of The Eminem Show also animated by a guy from GNN. I'm pretty sure it's up on their site still. I feel like "White America" is a much more scathing track overall, but also much less constructive than "Mosh."

Go Slim!

Why is this under Switchboard (political) and not under Music? What about this video is hotly political? Don't mean to be snide, just curious.

Forget it, I just read a little about it and now I see. sorry

Have you watched the video? In this video Eminem just nailed his cock to the anti-Bush flagpole.

So are we supposed to all go out and get black hoodies now?

Ha! I had the same thought seeing all those hoodies running around. The Eminem Army! You'll have to excuse him for the standard hip-hop braggadocio. Frankly, if 100,000 kids in black hoodies show up to the polls and cast their votes against BushCo, I'll personally bow down to Eminem.

Finderwolf, I definitely recommend watching the vid.

Flooding After the Storm

2004-10-27 11:33:05

The sun has returned to California, but the cold and the wind still remain. We pushed a few buttons on the computer Monday to show the world what we had done and the response has been overwhelming. Bringing hundereds of thousands of new viewers to GNN.

Among those who hepled get out the word, quick and nimble Salon reviewed the video within a few hours on Monday. MTV also wrote it up that night and premeired the video Tuesday on TRL adding it to heavy rotation instantly. In less than 24 hrs it has been voted up to the #1 video on the network. Word from within the times square headquarters is that “we’re playing it all over the place the man in charge of it all definitely wanted it heavy through election.”

Back on the net the rest were filing in, it’s currently on the Yahoo front door, The New York Times mentioned it in the Arts Section, the Nation called it, “one of the most overtly political pop music videos ever produced.” And finally the bloggers, from the Daily Kos to Wonkette. The most thoughtful review i’ve seen is by the Daily Kos’ Kid Oakland. Thanks for the props and thorough analysis Kid.

In that case, I'm going to buy a black hoodie. We need MORE fiction/reality. Rather poetic and cathartic end to such a presidency, no?

Just a polite bump for those who haven't seen this yet. I watched it again last night with my wife and we both had goosebumps.

Yeah, I watched it again, definitely got chills. The raw power of Eminem's rhyming is impressive when put to good use - and the lyrics are surprisingly astute. "Let us disarm this weapon of mass destruction we call President" - chilling in light of the new Iraqi civilian casualty count. I also like the quick lyric & visual at the end when he calls out, "Mr. President, Mr. Senator," which shows that he's not just encouraging black & white endorsement for one candidate, but candid questioning of authority. (...And the animation style is creative as well.)

Here's hoping that kids listen, even if they don't (or can't yet) necessarily go out and vote. It worries me to think that the generation of people who are teens now might have fallen prey to "faith-based" dogmas and will grow up believing that, as Britney Spears quacked, "we should just trust our President." I feel oddly grateful to Eminem for making a video like this.

So am I the only person who thinks that, brilliant as the majority of this video is, it would be a whole lot better if it ended with all those people rushing the building?

Finally got round to seeing it- it's damn impressive. When did Marshall grow a social conscience?

I have to say, Fly, I was certainly surprised when they didn't. But I guess that's the point.

I'm speechless. That is how it should end. Has anyone seen the new version aired on a music video station yet?

Very, very interesting to note that one of the signs being carried by a protestor at the end reads "Freedom Of Choice". I wonder to what extent that means that Eminem (either 'Eminem' the gestalt or Marshall Mathers the individual) just came out as pro-choice... It would be very interesting if he did take that stance explictly, simply because when several other prominent rappers (especially the more politicised ones) are against abortion and adamant that life begins at conception...

The ending is much more fun.

And as far as Freedom of Choice, I'm just gonna believe in my little head that it was really Eminem coming out as a Devo fan, because that would make me happy inside.

Interesting - it's clever how the line "Mr. President, Mr. Senator" still works.

On the other side of the "Freedom of Choice" sign I think there was a protestor with a "Protect the Innocent" sign. I don't know whether they're unrelated, or if that referred to Em's line about "put[ting] aside our differences" to fight Bush.

(off-topic)- Charrelz, there's a cover of Devo's "Freedom of Choice" on the new A Perfect Circle album- also something of a political statement from a band not prone to making them- which you may be interested in.(/off-topic)

If Eminem ever covered Devo I think I'd be fucking gutted:

"HE WAS A MONGALOID/ FUCKING BITCH HOMO/ I HATE YOU MOM"

Kind of weird to think of Eminem being anti-bush, in light of all those idiotic homophobes carrying the election for him, isn't it?
