Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

A thread to pick apart the carrion of our televisual childhood like enthusiastic but nostalgic hyenas. What was prime rib and what was offal? What do you want to see return? What should never comeback?

What should come back?
Knightmare: It was classic and with all the LOTR fervour recently I think something of its ilk would be well recieved.

The Face: well it only went away a while ago but why?

The Web Review: I haven't been able to find an online version of its quality since. It waded throught the quagmire and dross consistently reviewing the more interesting and diverse sides of the web.

The Deptford Mice: By far my favourite childrens book ever, go on Robin write another.

Back when I was a very very small lekvar, around 10 or so, I would awaken each at 6am each morning so I cold watch Voltron. The lion one, not the car one. Never the car one. This was a ritual that I followed for at least a year. If not Voltron then G-Force (or Gotchaman if you prefer).

Then when I was 18 I had the opportunity to watch it again. Whoah. Such suckage. the probelm with nostalgia is that it doesn't stand up well to scrutiny.

Monkey! Monkey was the shit, and I mean that in a GOOD way. I hear they're finally translating the episodes we never got in the west...
People from Japan and China are constantly amazed at what a big deal Monkey was in Britain and Australia. One guy couldn't believe it was the same show until me and another cartoonist started singing the theme song at him (with complete spoken intro, natch).

Chorlton and the Wheelies.

Oh, and V (except the really bad alien twin puppet)

Everything else really doesn't stand up to adult re-viewing.

God yes, if there isn't a "Bring back Noggin the Nog" campaign, maybe it's time to start one. When just about every other kiddies TV prog has got cult status and is out on video or DVD (waves "Roobarb" DVD as 'proof') why no Noggin the Nog?

Noggin was out on video a few years back- I've got The Omruds and The Fire-Cake.

Although I don't see there's much point me contributing to this thread, cos you ALL know what I'm gonna say...
