The Anti-climax of Armeggedeon and Saving the Planet...

Living under the threat of nuclear war my whole life, I've researched to a large degree prophecies becoming a bit of an espitologist.
I have studied the bible, Nostadamus, Edgar Cayce, Mayan Prophecies and on and on...
Now, that things are unfolding, I am feeling a sense of angst. Perhaps this is due to my feeling powerless.
Then there is this creeping feeling of this lurking Doom. This whole Armeggedeon Thing is like going to a movie and being told the ending first.
    1.Is anyone else experiencing this?

2.Is there anything at all one can do as a magician (besides the usual tantric meditations) to help avoid global disaster?

Love from,
-May

May,
there are a lot of things that we can do, either as a single mage or in group:

- We can create familiars to protect ourselves, and the ones we love, from harm; I don't think this is egothistical, because it would be necessary a very strong and experienced mage to create a familiar to protect an entire community;

- You can create a map of "hot spots" based in your studies of prophecies, and try to avoid this places. I know Edgar Cayce had a lot of prophecies involving the USA territory;

- And, as a group, we can create a strong servitor, organize collective rituals, launch supersigils to avoid, amenize, or even change the so-called "end of the movie". But this need to be a very responsible action, involving participants all over the world, and should be repeated a lot of times. When I think of this, I remember the Neil Gaiman' Sandman edition about the cats... how many mages would be necessary to change the World? Ten? A Hundred? A thousand?

If you, or anyone more experienced than me (it's easy... *laughter*) want to create one of these solutions, or better solutions, count me in.

How 'bout Rex City-Zen's star card meditation? I thought that was a good idea and I've been doing it every few days or so to generate energy to send off to various affected groups/individuals.

Be rilly kewl if somebody else would join in. As it is I feel like I'm trying to fill up the Blackwall tunnel by flicking lentils at it.

1. Yes, almost identical to the feelings you describe, in fact. Dread and impotence creep up on me now and again. Moreso recently.

2. I advocate micro-thinking over macro. Live your life as best you can, and do what you can to make your immediate peers' lives the same. Make /your/ world better. Enough people doing this is like a distributed system, doing the task of avoiding global disaster. What good is avoiding global disaster if you can't take care of things 'at home', so to speak. It's like the whole 'Be Here Now' thing, which is usually applied to time but is equally applicable to other scales.

I am not happy that others are feeling this way but I am glad I'm not alone. I am so grateful for this site as it has inspired me.
RnCassidy - Thanks for your suggestions. I will begin practice on some of these. I feel rather ignorant but perhaps someone could explain what a servitor is and how to employ this method.

Mordant - I will try to find the meditation you mentioned. Thank-you for your response.

Great imagery Mordant. I'll be flicking right along with you!

May, familiars (or servitors, like some people call them - I prefer familiars) are beings created by a mage using his/her energy to solve a determined issue. For example, I created a servitor to help me with my studies, the Washu-shan. Gek is a servitor as well, but it's more like a collective servitor now, since there is a lot of people giving energy to hir.

You can find a lot of good texts about servitors, sigils and the like in The Fifth Aeon Agregore, URL=http://www.phhine.ndirect.co.uk/]here[/URL].

Hope this will help.

Another idea...

And if we edit this movie, and create a new end to it? We can use all the real participants of this history, but changing their decisions in the direction of peace, tolerance, help to the opressed people of Afghanistan and other countries, and create a super-servitor to launch it in our reality?

Something like Grant Morrison did with the Invisibles...

It'll take a lot of work, and research, but...

Thank-you, Thank-you, Thank-you

It appears that I was just having a problem with semantics. I also prefer the word "familiar". It has a ring of equallity to it.
Now that that is out of the way I can get on with it.

Okay I'm in. This is a bit of a challenge but I am a passionate sort.

Are there any other takers?

P.S Does this need a new thread? I am not certain of The Barbelith protocol.

I don't know either. Maybe we can continue here for awhile...

I think that, first of all, we will need to decide how will act this familiar, its functions, what/who it will afect (persons, groups, regions...), its name, how we will "energize" it...

A list of persons/regions where it will have to act will help too.

About the history: the same way Grant Morrison create a fiction suit for himself and use it like one character in his Invisibles, we will need to create fiction suits to us, and use real persons from the situation in our history to afect them via this "history/sigil".

Well, tons of work ahead...

Hey May and others - I hear you. But I think it's incredibly important not to give into fear right now. I mean, it's OK to acknowledge being scared but now more than other one must be alert to what's going on around them. Not in the sense that the government says, alert more in an alert to what the government and the rest of the world is up to and what people need.

It's funny. About a decade ago, a friend of mine scared the living crap out of me with predictions of the apocalypse coming through in our lifetime. I couldn't sleep properly for about a week. But then I decided that if that happened, there was very little I could do to prevent that. What I COULD do however was to be the best me I can be and help in my way. My way ends up being a person who's not afraid to stand up and say what I think is wrong, and also a person who has a real ability to listen and make people feel better. I termed it and I know this is cheesy "A Warrior for Good."

And I gotta tell you, ever since September 11 I've been on the Warrior for Good mentality, or I've tried to be.

One thing, though, I feel really very strongly about getting the hell out of the U.S. right now. I'm not scared about planes crashing into buildings and anthrax and such - I'm scared about severely limited freedoms due to "the war on terrorism."

I just feel like I have to get out while the getting is good, and even though I'm leaving on January 31 I'm afraid something will happen and prevent ANYONE from leaving the U.S. hopefully not, though.

I reckon we are gonna need to get another thread going for it, tho', for ease of reference...

Since I'm mostly ignorant on Magick stuff, perhaps I'm not qualified to comment. May Tricks, I completely understand what you're feeling since the "feeling of impending doom" is something I've had to deal with all of my life. Most people ignore it, like their own impending death, because they're scared shitless of it and want to rationalize it away and pretend that it doesn't exist.

Me? I'm convinced at this point that civilization will largely collapse in my lifetime. It doesn't scare me anymore.

I say, don't fear the Apocalypse, embrace it!

Like cat likes fish and Cherry Bomb said, I'm a new believer in the "Think Globally, Act Locally" theory. I like to think of it as a spreading of positive forces at the level of quantum wave functions. We all have a lot more power over reality than we think we do.

If Armeggedon does come, maybe that's not such a bad thing if what springs from the ashes is better than what we had before.

RnCassidy, we should get together (with anyone who wants to help also) and create a massive servitor to, if not to turn our little tragedy into a sci-fi comedy, then to at least help in some way. Also, a large-scale-morrison-type-global-wank to charge this servitor would help. What say you?

Unlike May Tricks, I don't feel any sense of impending armageddon. Impending death of kajillions of innocent people, yes; impending human rights abuses by governments using 9/11 as an excuse to tighten the screws, yes, but not actual end-of-the-world shit. I'm inclined to feel that if society survived the eighties, we can get through this too.

Tweaking history is going to be tricky. Even assuming we have the abililty to alter reality in the way described, how do we know what to change? How do we know that we won't make things worse?

There's some hard choices down the road and I think we've got a part to play in making them. Maybe we should focus on changing the attitudes that got us into this in the first place?

Hi impulsivelad, I just got home now and read your answer...

I'll help in the development of the "Turn-Bad-into-Good" servitor from the other thread, and in the Star meditation (or, at least, I'll try; my Vertigo Tarot has a very diferent version of the Star, turning more into sacrifice, and not hope...).

Now, I REALLY don't know if I'll have more time with my personal familiar (poor Washu-shan!), the Star meditation and the new familiar of May, but I even think we should create a more direct, active servitor. What's your idea?

I've felt it since 1979. Its a continual bother. As well, a goodly portion of the magical people I know share this in some fashion. So, you're hardly alone

Other than Big Change, there are few details to glean, it seems. Of course, the rate of change for humanity is accelerating as well, so concievably the rate could skyrocket soon. Insert theories on changing Aeons and technological trancendence here.

What to do? I don't know. I feel like I should DO SOMETHING, at some point, but have no idea what. I've mused lately about widescale sigel work like your suggesting here, and I think it has merit. With enough cats...

The last time anything big enough happened to hold enough of the world's attention at once was y2k. We might have to hold out till 2013 to get enough folks looking the right way to launch something off big enough to make it stick. That is, if we don't blow ourselves all to hell, first
