gamertag nedrichards but I'm not really on Live too much at the moment as Midtown Madness 3 isn't as fun as it used to be and everyone cool has stopped playing Rainbow Six 3 with the release of Black Arrow. But my preorder for Halo 2 has been in for ages and I'm saving up for Outrun 2, the most fun I've had in an arcade since DDR hit these shores.

Okay, so my trial sub ran out and I was going to wait until after the holiday before paying the full whack for the year's sub.

But then I discovered that Metal Slug 3 has just come out in the UK, is a few pennies shy of fifteen quid on Simply Games and, most importantly, supports Xbox Live high score tables. Which means I need Live immediately, which means I've cheaped out and used a second free trial code.

Which means a new gamertag, unfortunately. E Randy Dupre. I'll be putting everybody back onto my friends list myself, so there's no need for anyone who already had me down to do anything. Er, other than accept the new friend request, obviously.

Well, it looks like the beautiful dream of Clan Barbelith is now a reality. I've just had a look at our bungie.net stats, and we've got nine members (eight, I suppose, if you don't count E Randy's two accounts). Having had my first party games with nedrichards last night, I'm itching to start playing in a larger team.

What's the likelihood of a group of us getting together one night to stamp the name of Barbelith on the anguished faces of our vanquished enemies? I'm likely to be on a couple of nights a week after about 6pm GMT or so... Would anyone be interested in arranging a specific date and time for a full-on Barbelith clan match?

I've been steering clear of the flag/bomb team games because I don't know the maps and feel like a bit of a twat, letting everyone else on my side down as a result. Need to have a few training runs before I step out of the Team Slayer/Rumble Pit games.

Drop into team training which plays a fair few objective games and isn't ranked in any way (ie you can have your mates palying as guests, which is cool).

... could be that a lot of barbelites, being hi-tech-aware-gamer-dudes and the like, are already in clans ... eg I've been in a clan for about a year called blueonblue ... we've even got a website

Well, we've already got a Barbelith clan set up with enough people to have at least a few minor clanmatches, but half of the members don't appear to be playing the game any more. Which is a bit of a shame, really.

I'd tend to agree but with the party system in Halo 2 the social importance of clans is much diminished and I find I can actually get the sort of fun yet challenging gaming I want with just lots of people on my friends list. Nice one Bungie, your 'virtual couch' idea's a goodun.

As for the numbers playing it that's the way it tends to go, I suspect looking at past live games we'll see a bit of a spike with the first downloadable content though.
