why is nobody watching or talking about this show? in my book, it's on par with Arrested Development as one of the best comedies on TV, if not the best shows on TV, period.
the writing is just so tight. while most of the episodes work well as hysterically funny standalone pieces, there's a season-long slow burn going on that just flat-out blows up in the last two regular episodes. it's the kind of thing that's good enough when you see it the first time, but once you realize where everything's going, and you watch everything the second time through, the way things build up is absolutely masterful. the pacing, the character development, the comedy - everything is just so high-quality.
and, frankly, it's raised the bar for the rest of the [as] lineup, since it has humor that's just as absurd, bizarre, and brilliant as anything on ATHF or Sealab, but much smarter and sharper.
i mean, for god's sake: Tiny Attorney. hot panda milk. Major Tom. the Krumpus. Tijuana rules strip poker. the PSA for Acute Testicular Torsion. MechaShiva. the wrath of the monarch. Smurfs being mammals. this... homeboy figurine.
why is this slipping through the cracks? if this doesn't get picked up for a second season, i'm going to send my walking Swedish murder machine to go sickhouse on your asses.
Ben Edlund even co-wrote one of the episodes. I think it was the second one.
Seriously? That's freakin' awesome. I'm still waiting for that guy to finish The Tick #13.
Chris McCulloch (aka Jackson Publick) was a writer on both TV versions of The Tick (animated and live-action). he considers Ben Edlund his mentor, and Edlund co-wrote the "Careers in Science" episode. there's definitely a Tick-esque sensibility about the whole show, with the lame super-characters and whatnot.
the live-action show was also where McCulloch met Patrick Warburton, who does the voice of Brock Samson. |
