Well, as will a lot of fans of hip-hop, and death metal, and goth, and electronica .... and probably fans of Coldplay, for that matter. I'm not sure "indie-boys" should be singled out for vigorous inscripton into another us versus them dichotomy.

if there's an us and them divide then so what? This is after all a debate... it gets boring quickly otherwise... Can I no longer say "I Don't Like This?"

I gave my reasons for not liking the supermarkets selling CD's and got shot down - one point for the righteous mafia (at least i have the honesty to own up when I'm being righteous)...

please if we're going to argue about what I did and didn't say read the whole post rather than parts that emphasise your arguement... I don't think I've said anything too radical or unfair....

As for this line...

And everyone who buys it offends you too, because they're not real music fans like you. How dare they like music so dull? Who do they think they are, calling themselves music fans? Twats!

hmmm i think your reading between the lines a little to far- in terms of trying to set up an us and them divide, I think your achieving this by dramatically exaggerating what i actually said - my description of supermarket shopping was as much as anything trying to summarize the blandness of them- a product like Baked Beans or shampoo- something for Jane Horricks to slip into the shopping basket in the Christmas Tesco ads while Prunella Scales checks the price match... I hold my music in higher regard than that and yes I know that makes me a snob- i don't apologise for that... but my attack is on the music not the fans- i know nothing about you- why (other than your patronising reply) would i call you a twat!

i think the band are boring- still do- and yes they sit comfortably in many record collections. The 'music for people that don't like music tag' is a term i'm using for people that like 'safe' music- maybe not fair because yes keane make music but i don't think you'll disagree that keane is relatively safe and unadventurous. Sorry if I offended you, Its hardly worth spilling so much energy on such a boring subject.
I guess we all have choices.. but Keane are just not mine...

This is after all a debate...

* Tries to resist making a facetious remark regarding Copey's complete failure to respond to the ideas suggested in several reasonable & mildly phrased posts on the previous page suggesting that the idea that music being sold in supermarkets might not quite represent the total death of music as we know it ... and fails. Sorry. *

The irony being that for the most part I agree with you - Keane suck ass, most of the music purveyed in supermarkets is MOR pap etc..

But, y'know, shrug, so what? Looking through the lens of our Underground Rock Fan mindset, a lot of rubbish music has always been popular and has always been sold from from a lot of rubbish shops. Get over it. It's different music for a different kind of people - we might agree Keane are unspeakably dreadful and the antithesis of all that is good and right, but that doesn't make it a self-evident truth.

or maybe couldn't be bothered- it will turn into a very repetitive arguement- getting more and more irritating- i stated my case, and you disagreed... can that not be it?

I'd say Merzbow was pretty unsafe. Could have a nasty accident if you were halfway up a ladder when somebody stuck some of his stuff on.

And Anaal Nathrakh made me fall off my chair once, so I'll be having a word with health & safety about them too..

owning skrewdriver records might end in injury.
might lose you your friends, and, if your boss was round when you put it on, your job.

boney M have got me into trouble before as well, but i dont think that was their fault.

Fraely Boyce had his glasses smashed at a Lightning Bolt gig.

Not me though. I don't wear glasses and I wasn't at the gig.

No, generally speaking fans of specific genres of music don't actually spit contempt down on other genres. Maybe when they were at school...

Well, it turns out that the song that started all of this off is called "Bedshapes" and, on a second listen, actually I like the chorus rather than the song proper, which will probably not save me an acid facial from Flyboy. The verse is a bit weak, and the bit with the cut-up synth choir is just a bit unnecessary. But the chorus is nicely put together and the lead singer has a decent set of pipes on him.

I got Kanye West at Safeway. It was cheaper and more convenient.

Think I could've got 'Pretty Toney' too. But I didn't; got it from a real record shop.

Supermarkets selling music. I dunno, it's kind of killing the smaller independant shops that actually give a shit about it.

Actually fuck it that's thier fault, they should stock tampons, beans & baby food as well as music.

Great, support your local supermarket with your purchase.

KEEP IT REAL. You know like Sainsbury's!
