The Best LOVE SCENES in comics...

There are lots of things that comics can do very well; spectacular sci-fi action adventure (just check out anything by Kirby), truly fantastic fantasy (like Gaiman's Sandman, Moore's Promethea, Morrison's Seaguy), mystery and drama (Stray Bullets, Queen & Country + more I'm sure)... but what about romance? And I don't mean anything spawned by the cheesy romance genre that was popular in the 40's and 50's, I mean something more contemporary. What are your favorite comic book love scenes?

The sweet and innocent interplay in Craig Thompson's Blankets is nice.

Monsieur Mala and the Brain realizing their affection for one another in Doom Patrol #34 is hilarious.

Promethea and Jack getting it on in Promethea #10 manages to be magickally interesting AND wonderfully sleazy & perverted.

My personal fave, though, is the uncanny Scott/Emma telepathic affair over in New X meN - particularly ish 131.

Any others come to mind?...

Anyone read Walt Simonson's Thor run(now in paperback from Marvel)? I always got a kick out of his seduction scenes with Amora (the Enchantress) and her Simonson-created younger sister, Lorelei.

Shugga. When the demon sneaks up behind him while he's fucking Princess Catamina and sticks the handle of his sword up Shugga's arse, and Shugga yells "NO ONE FUCKS WITH SHUGGA WHEN SHUGGA IS FUCKING!".

Also, Miracleman and Miraclewoman in issue 16, when they fuck in the sky and fall under the ocean like comets, brilliant.

Oh, yeah, that was gorgeous.

My own favourites are in Hothead Paisan: Daphne and Hothead's first kiss (the panel where they're both cross-legged and you only see them up to the neck, and then they draw back and look at each other) and their first fuck, with the heat delirium and clothespegs and lack of revelation about Daphne's genitalia. Beautiful.

Winner! I've never laughed harder than at Be A Man, although Sunturd (similar concept, but with Kochalka) is damned close.

I'd have to say, though, that the most impressionable romantic scene in my adolescence was, OF COURSE, Jean and Logan kissing during Inferno. Full Page 1 Spread ShockHorror!

The saddest romantic moment, probably Cerebus' "Shit" after he lets Jaka go in the second half of Church & State.

The Natural Way

Matt Murdock and Karen Page hugging in the snow. Him using his powers to feel his way around her bodies needs to ease her out of her junk sickness.

Total fucking romance. Really touching. Born Again rocks.

Crazy Jane and Robot Man. A gorgeous, gorgeous platonic relationship. Their compassion for each other drips off the page.

And Blankets. The strength of that one depends on the reader remembering the feeling of first love. And it works.
