There's a design book shop on Charing Cross Road, across from the Woman in White and down the hill a little. I've completely forgotten what it's called but it's clean, pristine and looks like it was designed.
I like the Bookart Bookshop on Pitfield Street, just opposite the Foundry in fact, which is a shop selling lots of lovely artist's books (v reasonable prices too for some of them). Dunno if it's quite what you were after but it is well worth going to see anyway...
is probably the best focal point of attention needy-hungry-deserving design in the uk. get a copy of design week and have a look in the 'what's on' section for out and about stuff.
I like the Crafts Council building which has exhibitions downstairs and a resource centre upstairs. A small temple to the shimmering space between utility and decoration.
R.D.Franks just off Oxford Street sells a ludicrous amount of books and magazines related to fashion design, clothesmaking and trend forecasting.
