Good morning,

It is 8AM on a chilly Friday and I've finally decided to make my introduction and commence to the posting. So, my name's James, I'm 28 years old, and now live in New York City after moving her from Birmingham, Alabama. I do tech support for a big company and am a Vajrayana Buddhist. And a non-practicing Discordian.

So, how is everyone today?

Well, I wouldn't dream of speaking for everyone else, but I'm fine, on account of it being 2.45pm on a Friday and I've broken the back of the work for the week.

So, how does non-practising Discordianism work?

And is it true that in Birmingham they love the governor?

How does one become 'non-practicing discordian' ?

By being very sensible, presumably.

Well, as far as loving the govenor, that's kindof an inside joke. During the term of George Wallace, all of the protests in regards to his segregation views(to quote him, "Segregation now, Segregation forever!") either started or ended up in Birmingham. If you would like I could actually go over that entire song and explain every verse, sadly enough. I learned it in my Alabama history class in grade school.

As for being a non-practicing Discordian it's like this. Once you start being a Discordian you are one and that's that. You can not act on being a Discordian(i.e., not do Discordian type stuff), but the essence of Eris is still lurking in there somewhere, waiting for a chance to escape). In my case it is seated right next to my Dork Powers.

You familiar with a painter named Tracie Noles-Ross? She's from Birmingham, and she's good.

Apparently, Tropical Storm Frances was no fun in Birmingham.

Actually, she's one of the few I haven't heard of. That is actually rather odd as I minored in art studio at UAB, the local university there and kept up with the local art community as a matter of course(they have a very strong iron sculpture community there, btw).

Yassss...I know him. You ever heard of Gary Chapman? He does stuff in the classic style, very, very good. I have a part of one of his installations, very simple but well done.

Cool! Olsen's Tracie's husband.

How're you liking New York? The Rosses and I have a mutual friend (from Fairhope) who had sex in the stairwell of the Empire State Building. And they say that New York isn't hospitable....

Oh, and Gary Chapman isn't ringing any bells, but that doesn't mean I haven't heard about him and promptly forgotten.

*shrug* It's got it's upside and it's downside. I'm in the process of moving to New Jersey for my job so I'll be about 40 minutes or so out, which is just fine by me. Though I will say that I have met some really nifty new people since I've gotten here.

New Jersey is for losers!

I mean lovers.

Well, as far as liking the NY and up north, well, like they say in the book, "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times." In some ways, it is awesome. Gonna be able to take Shaolin Kung Fu, met a mind numbingly awesome woman(who even if I end up dating is an inspiration for exactly who is and isn't in my league, but, well, long story), and have found out that money goes farther than everyone says around here. However, my current housing arrangements are *ahem* less than perfect and I am rather tired of dealing with rats. Overall, though it's a good thing.

Now, about Jersey. I think Jersey gets quite the bad rap. I lived in the south for many, many years and I saw a wide variety of critters, but I never saw, outside of a zoo, as many cool critters as I saw my one weekend out of town in NJ. Hawks, three black bears, are just two examples, but, overall, very nifty stuff. Most people think that all of NJ looks like the areas in and around NYC. Much like most people think that all of Mexico is like extreme northern Mexico and Mexico city.

In both cases, this is a mistaken impression. Though I must say that the whole "can't make a left turn 90% of the time" gets on my last nerve.
