The Sims 2 : ***whoa***

Perhaps the coolest thing I have seen on a computer - ever(That includes the Paris Hilton video) This version of Sims makes you forget the previous version and it's multi expansion packs. Beautiful 3D world with too many features to mention here. i have been hacking my version and I already have home movies playing on my SimTV! (by that, I mean, real video. I dropped an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm into the file and watched it in game!) Plus the ability to add your own music and videogames as well as the best character editing system ever - I haven't been in the"real world" since last Wednesday.

Has anyone else had a go?

I want to, I can't seem to find a working tracker... I think I'll buy it on payday next week.

Is it really that good?

I've been playing the original with all the expansions and I've been enjoying that (trying to make it as a rock star)...

I've gone of games in a big way apart from Yu-Gi-Oh Power of Chaos. I'm waiting for San Andres and Raw v's Smackdown.

It is that good. You will not be disapointed...especially if you enjoyed the first.

[i.e. You can build your house with up to 6 levels including basement...]

PLUS The addition of the 'DigitalDNA' really makes a difference.

I've bought it... but for some reason my PC is refusing to install DirectX 9.0c... it claims it hasn't been certified by Microsoft (EVEN WHEN I DOWNLOAD IT FROM THEIR OWN COCKING SITE) and aborts the installation.

I too can confirm that this 'game' rocks. I've got myself a girlfriend, given up my army job for a political campaigning career, keep walking around wearing a mood-enhancing hat and am trying desperately to get my girlfriend out of the hot-tub and into bed (with no success, as of yet).

My character has a huge facial tatoo, which is the main reason I wanna get jiggy with my ladyfriend - I want to see if the digital DNA extends to tats; it would be great to have child born with a tribally inked phizog!

I've now played it and agree it does indeed rock, the graphics are gorgeous and the facial animations make a huge difference.

I've got myself a girlie and I reckon I'm going to ask her to move in, she's already spent the weekend at my place although she's one hell of a messy eater which I think might cause some problems. I imagine I'll have an affair with the maid soon enough.

I can't seem to get the wallpaper/carpet tool to work though? I click the carpet I want but the cursor doesn't change, any help?

I guess the next stage will have to be online play with your neighbours being real world people, although I'm not sure how that would be possible - but it'll happen right?

And I'll never leave the house again.

I've never understood this obsession with the Sims. I know that - like Marmite - this game divides people into two polarised camps, but, for me, I just find any game whose only goal is to perpetuate itself to be boring.

I had the same problem with Elite when it first came out. Utter freedom! Go anywhere! Do anything! Yay! Um...ok..done that for a bit...utterly bored now.

Don't get me wrong. Freedom in games is a good thing (Morrowind, for example), but I just feel that a game at least has to have some tangible goal to justify the effort and time put in by the gamer.

Any I played Morrowind for about 5 minutes before going Orcs! and uninstalling (I think it was Morrowind)

I think it appeals to me because it's like playing with toys if you see what I mean, it's Barbie for the new age. It's the same with the WWE games I can spend hours just creating the right wrestler it's sometimes more fun than the game itself.

Plus my characters life is better than mine

There's already been a Sims Online, bear. It flopped miserably, iirc.

And you have a problem with Orcs, do you Bear? Do you? Huh? Huh? It's elitist anti-Orcery like yours which perpetuates the problems in fantasy worlds today. Bah, why am I even freakin' wasting my time with an Orcaphobe!? Go play your Sims, you Orc hating fascist.

Actually, on a rather less silly note, I have to agree with the Barbie reference. Indeed, it was that factor - and that factor alone - which managed to hold my interest for the couple of hours I spent with the Sims. However, I stand by my no-ultimate-point comments. Umm...and my Orc hating fascist name calling, of course.

(mod thingy- having bumped this thread, I've requested a move to the Games and Gameplay lot. The Conversation lot wasn't meeting many of its needs, you see, and now they've built the G&G one...)

Late to the party as always... I finally have a computer that will run this. And, similar to the original, I installed it, fired it up, and spent what I thought was about twenty minutes thinking "hmm. Not really getting into this". Two hours passed like the blink of an eye... I'm already having moral convulsions at the fact that both adults in my Sim family have tasken jobs with the military. It's so they can buy the kid a computer, obviously... but, y'know...

I foresee the next few weeks being spent indoors. Hopefully, as with the original, a day will come when I'll just wake up and realise I don't care any more. Otherwise I'm doomed.

(On the bright side, all the family seem to enjoy the METAL setting on the stereo. Strange way of dancing they've got, though...)

Hello old thread ...

Not sure what version of Sims y'all are playing but fairly certain ours can't have babies *SOB*.

Are UK and US versions of Sims 2 different? And how do you kill one fast?

Don't.

Just don't. I've managed not to play for ages.

Don't remind me of its existence.

B-but Stoat, they may not be getting on very well in their careers without you! They may have dressed themselves badly, and be having trouble wrt the 'bathroom' issue. Call me a hippy if you like, but I could not live with anything like that level of guilt. I just don't see, morally, how you can look away ...

And, frankly, if you feel otherwise, up there in Heaven there's an Ostrich, Eel, Llama and Squid sandwich with your name on it!!!

I wouldn't say that I'm addicted though.
