Hello everybody! I've been away from home a lot lately so haven't had much chance to catch up with Barbelith folk.

How are you all doing?

Glad to hear it folks! I'm doing okay too, mainly because I'm going to visit my mum and dad next week and they have a very interesting nextdoor neighbour. Very ... interesting ...

I should really be going to bed, but I've got three cans of Kronenbourg sat in my mini fridge, giving me that puppy-dog look that I just can't resist.

Awwwwww, look at dem ickle frosty beers.

Mmmm. Kronenbourg. All the pleasure of Stella without the "WTF was wrong with you last night?" pain.

Kronenbourg is way better than Stella. Stella to me always tastes like Kroney that someone's put a fag out in.

Although I am teh classy. I tend to go for Red Stripe when drinking at home.

You are my 'beer twin', Stoatie (a la the 'hand twin' of friend fame) - Red Stripe is a wicked brew; smooth; just sweet enough and just alcoholic enough to allow a decent time/volume of consumption before consumption is no longer possible.

Having said that, the local Bargain Booze is flogging Becks off at a decent price and I'm tending towards that lately. It may not be as flavoursome, but those maniacally stifling German brewing laws sure do a helluva lot of good at preventing additive-induced hangovers...

Aye, Becks is a decent enough brew.

Whenever I read the label I always think of a (jewish) lecturer of mine's story of a private view or something he had been to where they had served Becks: "whenever I read the words, 'German purity laws,' I start running!"

Red Stripe's not bad at all though. What's the consensus on Budweiser? (I mean real Budweiser, i.e. "Budvar.")

I used to think Budweiser was just pisswater then I had a Budvar and it was quite nice and surprisingly alcoholic. Can I assume it's a different thing? I figured maybe it was like Diet Budweiser or Budweiser Lite or Cherry Budweiser or something. Can anyone shed any light on my poor dumb confusion?

Oh my word. click here for enlightenment.

BTW, Annheuser-Busch Budweiser (i.e. U.S) in the UK is 5 per cent alcohol so not that weak.

Thank you Linus! I am enlightened.

Maybe I'll just stick to wine from now on, they give you more geographical information on the label and anyway I think it tastes nicer.

"Annheuser-Busch Budweiser (i.e. U.S) in the UK is 5 per cent alcohol"

Am I to infer from that that it's weaker in the USA? If so, what is it?

Nevertheless, Budweiser is generally regarded as 'pish' in the UK. There are many, much more worthy American beers than Bud.

Hehe - I'm always a fan of a thread where threadrot is a definite impossibility, especially at this time of the day...

I'm a very happy bunny; I've just booked a train on Friday from Manchester to London, and then back again on Saturday, whereupon I start a 12 hour night shift - going to a party with a friend I've known for over 20 years, but who I see only 3 or 4 times per year.

Hilarity/twattedness is bound to ensue.

Can't wait.

I think the basic difference can be summed up thus:

Budvar=nice beer
Budweiser=absolutely vile wee.
