How DOES one observe the Autumnal Equinox anyway? Cultural/magickal/spiritual/psychological relevance? Any info at all? Please?!?

Well, I use the Autumn equinox as a time to say goodbye to Summer and to welcome the fall. If you type autumn equinox into any search engine you'll get lots of pagan/Wiccan sites with rituals, etc.

This equinox marked the second grain harvest, the bringing in of the last of the year's crop. Thus, it was also a time of thanksgiving.

I usually go for a walk (though I'm doing it today) to collect the first colored leaves, acorns, seed pods, cool-looking dried stuff, etc. Psychologically, the Autumn gives me a tremendous rush. I lose all interest in sleeping, but never feel tired. It's exhilirating and joyous.

Another thing to do at this time, if you like, is to pause and take a look back at the past year, gear down, and prepare for the turning inward that is often associated with the winter. The question is, how does this time of year make YOU feel? Your answer will serve as a guide for your personal observances.

I strongly recommend the Black and Orange update thread for more autumnal magic discussion. Hope this helped!

The equinox (equal night) marks the point of balance between night and day. On this date everyone on earth will experience a 12 hour day and a 12 hour night.

gale...thanx. Sometimes my lack of patience makes me overlook some other threads. I'm trying to find a focal point for the strong (often creative, but sometimes just strange) feelings I get at the changing of the season...

My big brother's birthday falls on the Equinox. As a result I'm usually to full of cake and wine (funnily enough) to do much. I love the magical atmosphere at this festival time though.

Am I being really clueless and silly? Is Halloween the autumnal equinox? It is, isn't it, and I just totally embarrassed myself, didn't I? Ah well... From the way it was being discussed, I thought it was some other thing (like Mab-Day in the Black & Orange Thread). Help me.

Happy Equinox, all you crazy people! I baked a celebratory apple crisp for Queen Mab (and those who will take part, thus sharin' the Mab-ness) as well conducting smaller offerings and rituals throughout the day (incense, mantras, exertions, every meal an offering etc). And I dedicated all I shall do art-wise this year to her and the divinity of which she is a part.

it's the shift from winter to spring here. i just put down a bunch of marijuana seeds for the coming growing season and repotted some of my house plants. i guess you could kinda consider that some from of 'celebration', in a very loose sense.
